Hello all,
I'm getting a bit.ly custom short domain and I was wondering if it would work with Yola and if it does how would it work so that rapitweet.yolasite.com, rapitweet.co.uk and my short domain all redirect to my site. My domain is with 123reg, so would that mean I have to sort it out with them or will the Domains section of My Yola have anything to do with it?
I'm just curious whether it will have something to do with Yola or 123reg or both.
Thanks

Hi Callum

Thanks for posting your question. Using URL shorteners such as bit.ly will not affect your hosting or domain sites. They are separate entities from your hosting sites.

URL shorteners take existing long URLs and make them shorter so that they are easier to digest in emails and on social media sites like Twitter which limits your updates to a small number of characters.

You can take your URL or website pages and created short urls for each one. Then you can use the shortened urls in correspondence such as emails or newsletters.

For example, I have taken you url http://rapitweet.co.uk and put it through a few URL shorteners. These are the results:

Tiny URL - http://tiny.cc/83u5b

Bit.ly - http://bit.ly/cmpwRv

Is.gd - http://is.gd/ecRuF

I hope this helps!

Thanks

Thanks for your response Nazlie, but you may have misunderstood my question. Im getting a custom short domain for my site with bit.ly, the examples they have on their website are: pepsi.co.uk --> pep.si ; yahoo.com --> yhoo.it. I'm talking about: http://bit.ly/pro/ under the heading "Custom Short Links" will a link like this affect my domain or not?
Thanks
Callum

Hi Callum

From a domain hosting point of view, a custom url shortener won't affect your domain.

If you encounter problems once you have your custom shortener, please let us know.
