Is it possible to replace the banner image with an swf flash file. I know this can be done with other website builders but can it be done in Yola?

Hello aakashkan19

You can definitely add a flash banner to your site, but not in the banner position of a style that has a changeable banner; this is because the banner area does not support .swf files.

You could however choose a style that does not have a banner image area and place an HTML Widget at the top of the page and into that your flash file.

Here are some style possibilities that might work if you would like to try this:

1. Squeaky Clean
2. Darkened
3. Midnightalley

You may also find another style that works better for you; the above are just a few styles without a banner image that also do not have a large amount of space between the top of the page and where you can begin to place widgets.

Here's how to add a flash file to your page:

1) Upload your .swf file. You can do this by clicking on the File Manager button.
2) Drag and drop a HTML Widget onto your site, where you would like to see your flash presentation, and paste the following HTML inside it:

<!--<object width="200" height="400">
<param name="movie"value="resources/myswffile.swf">
<embed src="resources/myswffile.swf"width="200"height="400"/>
</object>-->

*Please do not include the <!-- and -->. They help to stop the forum from interpreting the code.

3) Then substitute "myswffile.swf" in the code above - in both places, with the name of the file you uploaded, and you should see the flash movie appear when you close the HTML editor. You'll need to play around with the width and height values in the text above, to suit your movie's needs.
4) Remember to include any folder names in the file path if your file is stored in a folder in the File Manager. For example: "resources/Flash folder/myswffile.swf"

Please let me know if you have any trouble with this.

You can put animated banners though. I have put animated banners in the banner area before and it worked. Just I haven't put a swf file there.

Thanks Nathan - I had forgotten about that!

Here are the steps aakashkan19 if you should want to go this route:

If you would like to add a rotating banner to your banner area, the Animated GIF Generator is a neat program that can help you do this!

**Please note:** Before creating your rotating banner, please ensure the banner images that you want to use are the same dimensions. You will also need to look at the dimensions of the banner area of your style (this will be displayed at the bottom of the dialog box when you click on the banner area) so that you can create your banner to be the proper size.

Now you're ready to begin!

1. Go to this link: Animated GIF Generator
2. Choose your dimensions - you will most likely want to select either "Leave original size" or "Custom size".
3. You should see a grey colored box where you can upload your banners images. Click on "Add".
4. Once you've added all your images, click on "Upload".
5. When your images have uploaded, you can now select the number of seconds you want your images to be displayed as well as change the order of which the images appear.
6. After you have set up your images the way you want, then click on "Submit".
7. Click on "Save to computer" and upload your newly created rotating banner to your banner area.

For steps on how to do this, please check out this tutorial: Adding a banner.

Please let me know if you have any trouble with this.

Hello Pranavans,

To add an swf file to the banner area you do need to remove the banner contents completely and this will move the content wrapper up into that space. There may be some background changes that occur in this process.

If you can tell me your website I can let you know the code changes that will do this as it is style specific.

True but not quite the end of story. With a facility of Firebug you can actually do a mockup of the final presentation of the layout remotely. if it's what you want then I can give you the code.

Hi pravans,

Here is the Modern Interiors Style/template with the banner removed completely.

The white area I've left as it shows you the canvas or content wrapper where you can add anything including an swf movie. The length of this space isn't restricted, it grows to fit your content. As I said this is everything removed but can be modified a little bit if you still want things to be apparent. I can only see if this would work for you. Let me know and I'm happy to pass on the code etc.

Do you want this for each page or just simply your index page?

You obviously have Yola Silver.

The answer to this question dictates the way I present the code to you and the instructions for placing it.

Hi pranvans,

I have seen your other thread and want to say I'm sorry for the delay which coudn't be helped.

Here's the code to remove the banner associated files leaving you with a blank area to add your swf file.

#sys_banner {
}

div.ys_banner_wrap {
}

div#sys_background {
}

div.ys_top_shadow {
}

You can simply add this to your CSS over-rides and it will make the changes across your complete site.

Hello pranavans,

Different styles will require different kinds of coding to remove the banner area. Please can you share the URL of the site that you wish to remove the banner area? I did try http://nothingtoclick.yolasite.com/ but it seems to be unpublished now.

Sorry Sanja,

That site is mine not pranavans. I have had all kinds of internet issues and still coming and going with the latest being the ISP. gateway blown out being the latest.

The code above will remove the banner and all associated files from the banner area. This is specific for Modern Interiors.
