I want to add a box around some text, just to make it look nicer? Is there a way to do that?

Emmy:

Thanks so much for find this. I don't think I am computer savvy enough, because I don't understand it. If anyone out there can break it up simpler for me, I would appreciate it. I already have text on my site. Do I need to create a html box and put the code in there for the box and then copy my info to the box, or is there some other way? Gosh, I wish I was smarter!

Thank everyone!

Hi Katie,

You have the general idea.

Learning html isn't something you can do in one night, so start little by little. Below are some ways you can edit the code (the code you can use is at the bottom of this post) to make the border look the way you want it to.

The part of the code bgcolor="#000000" close to the beginning is saying to make the border black. Here is a link to find more color codes http://www.computerhope.com/htmcolor.htm. If you replace the #000000 in the code with #FF0000 the border will become red.

The part of the code close to the beginning cellspacing="15" is where you can change the size of the border. Change that number to 5 and the border will become much thinner.

The part of the code bgcolor="#FFFFFF" closer to the middle is saying to make the background white. Again, if you replace the #FFFFFF with #0000FF the background will become light blue.

What I suggest you do is drop in the html widget, paste in the code exactly as you see it below ( you will need to delete the <!-- at the beginning and the --!> at the end, I put those there to deactivate the code for this post. ) see how it looks, then go about changing the few pieces I explained like border color, background and text.

<!--
<table width="100%" align="center" cellspacing="15" cellpadding="0" border="0" bgcolor="#000000">
<tr>
<td bgcolor="#FFFFFF">
<table width="100%" align="center" cellspacing="20" cellpadding="0" border="0" bgcolor="#FFFFFF">
<tr>
<td><font face="Arial" size="3"><b>Here is where your text should be. This can be as long as you would like.</b></font></td>
</tr>
</table>
</td></tr></table>
-->

Let me know how this works for you. I would like to help more if you want, but this is a good place to start.

Best of luck,
Emmy

You put the html code into the html widget? Good, click OK and see if the text "Here is where your text should be. This can be as long as you would like." with a border appears.

Gosh, maybe I did the wrong thing. I did not choose anything from the widgetbox gallery. I just clicked on the html option and it popped up the box to enter the code. Should I have made some other kind of box from the widgetbox gallery? Told you I am not that savvy!

Ok, now click on the little Edit button in the left hand upper corner of the widget box.

Now you are back at the code. The part of the code that says Here is where your text should be. This can be as long as you would like. is where you will put your text.

What I would do is open up the document that you have your text in, delete the text above that I wrote within the code, and replace it with your text by pasting it in there.

OK, all that worked, thank you so much! I think my problem is more complex. What I have on my site is a list with different links, so when I pasted it in place of your words, everything is jumbled together with no links. I need them to stay in a line going down, not reading straight across. Not sure if you can help with that one. I am learning a lot, thanks!

Well, I have an event I have to leave for. I will list my site and if anyone can go there and see what info I have and let me know how to get it into boxes, I would greatly appreciate it!

http://momsfunmoney.com Both the kids freebies and coupon pages both need boxes or anything else someone might think of that would make them look nicer.

Thanks to everyone, you have been great!

For your links, here is an example with some code creating a list:

<!--
<a href="http://www.cnn.com">cnn.com&lt;/a>&lt;br>
<a href="http://www.synthasite.com">sunthasite...>
<a href="http://www.tvguide.com">tvguide.com&l...>
-->

Past in this code, minus the deactivating pieces, and see how the links show up, then try to emulate with your links.

It's basically, what is the link "http://www.cnn.com", and what do you want to display on the page "cnn.com". The <!--<br>--> causes a line break, so a list is possible.

Sorry I posted a wonderful little nested table generator and then found out that after I was finished editing the page and went to another then returned that the page background was black and the widgets on the page were unable to be edited.

Stinks I know but as the average user would not know what to do I felt the need to delete it. In my case my pages are already built and I don't edit them as other do and can leave them in and the editor background black. It only appears that way in the editor and not the actual site...

If anyone wishes to use it knowing the problems then I might think about sharing but as far as posting it I think the Reps have enough to deal with...

You are all going to think I am crazy, but all the options just were too high tech for me. I ended up making a table in Word and pasting it to a text box and then pasting all my info (links included) into the box. Not as nice as the boxes Ed has, but they will do for now.

Thanks for everyone and their help

Hi Katie

You are not crazy... I was where you are only 2 1/2 months ago and look at me now...

I must admit I did as you are now but I used microsoft publisher... ;)

The reason why it's not good to do that is because text contained within an image web crawlers cannot crawl and they cannot read the words to know what it's about.

If after you make yours the way you like I will make a table for you that is similar in appearance. Please leave the URL of the page with your box and I will create one for you later.

Happy site building
Ed
