I would like to add a section with rotating quotes on the home page of my site.

I would also like to add flash images to sites that allow a banner change.

Can either of these be done? How??

Hello KK,

The rotating quotes is quite straight forward. there are widgets i think that can do this. Check Google gadgets and Widgetbox for starters,

The flash banner is possible but can't be placed in the banner position of a style with a changeable banner. This is because the banner area can't accept swf files.

With careful style selection you can place an HTML widget high on the page then into this paste the HTML code for the banner movie. I would select a style NOT containing a banner

Flash movies generally require two components.
1. the swf file which you upload into your File manger
2. The HTML code of the movie player. (This is placed at the position on your page that you wish to view the flash movie)

Generally these two components are offered by the flash file creator

If you wish further information please get back to us here.

Hi Peter...I checked in google gadgets and widgetbox but didn't see anything that made sense to me in this regard. Sorry to be so dense...can you be more specific or point my nose (even more) in the right direction? I seem to know less and less as I go along! And I'm reasonably competent!

That's such an interesting resourceful resource Connor. :)
Does Wix enable you to make flash movies suitable for use as banners?

Connor I've seen a flash intro on a best of type web-site. They used a static image of some flora and an occassional drip of water landing on a lef and running off. So what happened was that the leaf flexed when the drip landed on it and then recoiled as it ran off. I would love to know how I can do that. That's why my ears pricked up when you mentioned Wix. Is that the sort of thing that could be done or is that higher than they're aiming for?

I went into the Thai mecca of electronics on Tuesday and found a 15 title DVD for making Flash Movies. It only cost 200 baht (about 3 pounds) but I had no idea if this would be self contained or if there would need to be umpteen add ons purchased. Anyhow I didn't buy it :(

Thanks for the tip on Wix, Connor. I went to Wix and signed up but am much more novice than you guys, so not fully tracking all this. I get the gist, but not all the process and lexicons make full sense. Is anyone making video-tutorials, or equivalent, for Yola yet? I'd love to see them...it could be the next big thing for Yola/Yola community builders. If I knew enough to teach, I'd make some visual tools myself. Lots of people are show-me types (like me). Anyway, I appreciate your help...AND, I'm still stuck! (Learning about lots of great tips and tools though! Too bad I don't know how to build anything with them -- yet!!)

Hi there KK,

Yes, you can add flash to your site. (But unfortunately not to your banner)
Ed (one of our champs) has a great post on adding flash that is well worth checking out. You can find it here: http://tinyurl.com/owjrmx

If you have a swf flash file you can add it as follows:

1) Upload your .swf file. You can do this by clicking on the File Manager button.
2) Drag and drop a HTML widget onto your site, where you would like to see your flash presentation, and paste the following HTML inside it: (without the <!-- --> )

<!--<object width="200" height="400">`
`<param name="movie"value="resources/myswffile.swf">`
`<embed src="resources/myswffile.swf"width="200"height="400"/>`
`</object>-->

3) Then substitute "myswffile.swf" in the code above - in both places, with the name of the file you uploaded, and you should see the flash movie appear when you close the HTML editor. You'll need to play around with the width and height values in the text above, to suit your movie's needs.
4) Remember to include any folder names in the file path if your file is stored in a folder in the File Manager. For example: "resources/Flash folder/myswffile.swf"

If you have any further questions, please let us know.

Thanks Jeremy. Unfortunately I'm back at the "How do I create a .swf file. THEN, how do I incorporate it. I found a reputable sounding site and tool with a free .swf creator software. I downloaded it and my McAffee software flagged it 3 times as a trojan invading my system. Now I'm terrified, and more stuck than ever. Yikes!!

Hi KK,

It's a pity that you came across a site with problems like this. There are many sites offering Flash Banners.

Here is one of the many that I have used:
http://www.123-banner.com/

Once again the generator will produce an .swf file. Save this and place it into your File manager.

There is also an HTML file which you need to place on your page with the use of an HTML widget. I gave a reference to understanding the HTML widget on your other thread.

The HTML code you can get from the same site. It depends on the type of Flash file you use as to whether or not you can use the HTML code that Jeremy has listed.

Just take it one step at a time. I'm sure you will get there. :)

Hi there KK,

I am sorry you had a virus problem with this site - it is unfortunate that this happens every now and then.

The site Peter posted is a great site for banners. I really hope it helps. (Thanks again Peter)

I went to the site you mentioned. My need is actually not for a "banner" but to have rotating text larger than a banner, that matches the background if possible. (not a box around it). Do you know about making swf files that are not just flash banners?
