Cannot get Yola Mail on Yola Silver?

Hi, I cannot seem to get Yola Mail for my domain.
I have Yola Silver, and a domain purchased through Yola for which I want to add Yola mail, but I only get the options to add a Google or a Hotmail to this domain, whereas I need domain specific mailboxes.
I've been through the help but none of the options there appear on my Yola Home or domain management screens.

Hello Earl,

This may sound like a silly question but have you paid for Yola Mail yet, it is an additional extra (it is not included in the Yola Silver package).

If you have not paid for Yola Mail then you can either pay for it, or you can use the GMail or Hotmail options that are free! I personally used the GMail system as it was easier to set up that Hotmail.

If you have paid for Yola Mail then let me know and I can help you further.

Kind Regards,

Andi

Hello Earl,

If you have purchased your domain through the GYBO or GBBO you cannot use the Yola Mail facility as this seems to be the terms of the contract.

If you use the Google Apps mail then you can have a domain specific mailbox(es).
I've lost touch with the Hotmail(Windows Live) facilities so I cannot comment on what they offer at this stage. The Google Apps system is great and has a broad flexibility with a limitation on the number of mailboxes for the free application (I think 10 mail boxes?).

To add a Google Apps Mailbox see the tutorial in the link.

For a Windows Live mailbox this tutorial should point the way.

Oh well this is disappointing. As great as google is, without domain specific email addresses it's just not professional enough.
It's okay, I guess, I'll just have to use another third party provider to supply mailboxes for the domain and maintain the MX records separately. I *can* do this can't I?

That seems like a strange contractual limitation for "Getting British Business Online" - I wonder who got paid good money for thinking that up, or worse, for not bothering to think of ways around whatever limitations seemed to make it impractical to include. I assume they didn't just think "nah, they won't need real mail services".

Lol, I could run an entire site on Google if I wanted, but for some reason I've chosen not........

Hi Earl,

I hope I haven't got you in crossed lines here. The Google application is Domain Specific Email. as I define it (?)

eg : myname@mydomain.com.

Am I mis-understanding something?

Hi again Gop, no you're not. I'm an idiot. I see what you mean and am going through it now.

Thanks for that.

Really glad that the penny dropped. You'll be happy with this I'm sure as I am and others are.

Hi Earl

Gop is correct. Google is running a program to help get small businesses online and subsidizes domains for the first year as part of this program. While Yola provides sitebuilding and hosting we do refer customers who sign up through this program to Google specific products where relevant and email is one example of this. Google Apps definitely allows you to set up domain specific email addresses as their solution is designed specifically with small businesses in mind. Please check out the tutorial Gop linked to and let us know if this meets your requirements.

Actually guys, even lollier,: as of now I'm working towards becoming a Google Apps reseller. My prior bemusement has evaporated in cloud of business sense. I'll be signing up my second customer to their own cloud/intranet/prayers-answered this weekend (the site prompting this call being the first!).

Live and learn. I'd lost touch. Though using a few Google tools myself, and obviously finding my way to Yola via Google, I can't believe I'd missed the whole scale/integration of Google Apps. Don't think I'll be upgrading my M$office next time around.....

Thanks again. Glad I joined this forum now.

Earl,

I'm interested in your cloud/intranet creation. Wondering if you could point me to your business site if it's up and going?

Gop.

Not yet. My business site is being developed and I've got a few other things to get done before I will apply to Google. All my work comes through word of mouth.

The site this call was about is still in development with some details to be finalised, although the free Google Apps space for it is up and running with 3 users.

The other customer's site should be up sooner, but again that will be for free Apps for now. The tools are a doddle to start with, and when they're established both customers will move to a business account, which by then will be through my channel. So far the only problem with the free Apps is the lack out Outlook support or desktop synch in genera, so I have set up my own business domain email through Live (which also does the domain specific stuff but connects to Outlook.... I know - outlook - give me time XD ).

So yeah, when I said "working towards", I meant nothing more than that really. This is such a great way forward for so many of the kinds of people who come to me, that it makes sense for me to get in position to make the best of it both for them and for myself.

Thanks Earl for taking that time to respond. It sounds like an exciting future for your work and I think you have made a good choice with the combinations mentioned.

Outlook is still OK and will hang around for a while as a good legacy. Love to know how much data is out there on Outlook backups and archives. Think terra-bytes would be a fraction :)

Lol as I was writing that I was thinking about the 2 gigs of pst files I have currently active, plus the several gig more of backups lying around on disks going back to 1997!

Yes, it's an exciting time. I've been moving out of IT towards more consultancy, business start ups and the like, but every time I end up coming back to the same issues. I originally got a Yola account because of a venture I got into with an artist, and now before I know it I'm finally re-evaluating my whole approach to IT services and jumping back in again.

Being in IT through the evolution in commercial software through application-servers, managed services, rental models and every other approach aimed at finally removing the cost of ownership involved in just keeping a complex enterprise system functioning. cloud is just such an obvious model to follow. I'd never really thought about it in those terms before, but man the day is here when a small Jo like me can sell someone an enterprise level application which does everything they need from their information management, without it being a headache for me to maintain and an unrealistic cost burden to them. Put it this way, I'll never set up another Small Business server for as long as I live!

That really is most interesting. It's snippets of experience and philosophy of experienced people that really drop it into a perspective.

It has never crossed the bi-neuronal brain here that all of this is out there ready for the picking so to speak. Entrepeneurs (you) see the whole Ikea package and offer it as an integrated solution for enquiring customers. Brilliant!
