I'm trying to access my website to work on it and when I log into yola, it takes me to my account then I click on open my website. From there it gets stuck and just shows the yola name and little circle that says it is loading but nothing happens. At the bottom of the screen it says done with errors on page. I can't get into my site to work on it. Any advice? Thanks

Hi Charles

There's a couple of things you can try to do.

1. Log off your account, then try clearing your cache in your browser. Then, try re-logging back in.

2. You can also try accessing your site through a different browser and see if that allows you access to your site. What browser are you currently using?

3. What you're describing sounds like there may have been a bad code on your site which is preventing the site from opening up. Do you know if you added any codes? If you did, then you may need to delete your code. If you can't access it, then you may have to send support to Yola (support@yola.com) asking them to remove it. Worse case scenario - that page will need to be deleted. Hopefully though, this will not be the case.

Hello Charles,

Littleus has given you some excellent suggestions. If they don't work, here's a few more things to consider:

* Does your page have a large number of pictures or large files? This can cause a page to load slowly. Check the file manager to see the file size of your images. Web friendly images should be between 20 and 100 KB. If yours are larger than this, try saving them with a smaller file size using Photoshop's "save for web" function, or use the "save and share" tab at Picnik (this tab is not available from within Yola).

* Check to see if you are having problems with your network or internet service provider.

* Try a different browser. For example will the page load in Firefox, but not in Internet Explorer? There may be a widget on your page that a particular browser cannot load.

* Have you added any custom HTML to your page recently? If so you might accidentally have slipped in some invalid code that is causing your page not to load.

* Did you copy and paste text from a Word document? The formatting of MS Word text sometimes causes problems. Try pasting the text into a program like Notepad or WordPad and then paste into a Yola text box. This will strip out any unwanted code.

* Does an error dialog pop up or do you see an error message in the bottom left hand corner of your screen? If so, could you please give me the details of the error.

Hello stormydaycrafts.com

This is something I have great sympathy for. Sorry that you are experiencing this kind of trouble.

Have I interpreted correctly that the problem is intermittent or has it been continuous over this period.?

Have you tried the suggestions made by ruth and Littleus?

Are you able to identify anything that was added or changed at the time this problem showed up?

If you have tried all those things there's probably one more that you could try and that would be to access the builder via a different network and see if the problem continues. (connectivity issues)

The most likely fix is clearing the cache of your browser followed by a restart of the PC.

The next most likely fix is to switch your browser to another if you can.

A common cause is the addition of rogue code via a word processor such as MS Word. This has been known on many occassions to block function and break the page.

Finally are you able to open another page in the builder? That will sort of tell you if the problem is limited to your index page. (you may not be able to get that far if it's hanging very early on in the start-up process)

If you can't find a solution by these means then please send an email to support@yola.com. They will look at your site and check for errors with their teams.

Good luck and hope you're back in building very shortly.

OK. I 've had a look at a number of your pages and I can't identify anything that is terribly wrong.

Some of your images are very large, approximately 200kb per image and there's a number of images per page. This will most definitely slow down the loading dramatically. Each of those images could be reduced to 20 kb each and this won't affect the appearance of them at that size.

That's the only thing i could see. Would you like to have a go at reducing the file sizes and see how that goes? I think it's your best bet.

Oh Congratulations. That's a great fix. Good on you!

My suggestion still stands becasue the quicker your beautiful site loads the higher is its attraction feature. Unless you want people to look at expanded versions of the stitchwork I think that it is to your advantage to reduce the file sizes. That should giveyou anotehr 90% advantage. Time really is of the essence. lots of work has been done montoring this and you sound extremely competent at manipulation of images.

Even if you have the ieda of allowing inspection of your work at a larger size and higher res, I would consider still reducing these and using them as a preview. Clicking on them would then fetch a higher res image. That will still sve a huge amount of loading time for you.

I am just so glad for you that the real problem has been fixed by yourself.

I think your site is great. There's a lot of detail and it's not a burden but a pleasure browsing through.

It's always difficult predicting what your landing page will be for vistors as your hoping, i presume, that a lot of visitors will come in via search engines. Often the Home Page is not the landing page but your home page will be a significant page, due to your contact form and invitation. It's an important page.

It's possibly worth considering the typography and layout. You've got the content right. typography and layout are difficult. there are some general rules including don't over-do the centering of text. For some reason it takes away an edge. Key sentences work well centered. instruction and background info are better handled within a left aligned or justified configuration. The typography is a personal style and shouldn't be mixed up too much neither in type face nor size. Colour can be used effectively to fit in with the rest of the page or for slight emphasis of content. Emphasis should be used sparingly otherwise it tends to lose its impact. I would include underlining in this definition.

Many web-authors hide their forms behind a link and it works well. I think that your design is very good with it on this page. It's part of the page message and continues into the contact form. It flows in context so keep it in the same flow of style.

See what you feel about these ideas. if you feel very comfortable with what you have done, then I wouldn't change it. If it doesn't quite hit the spot this analysis may help you identify elements or combinations that don't feel right to you.

I like your pages very much and the content is extremely interesting and attractive. 400 images! That will keep you occupied for some time and a very brave project for a first project or any project :)

I am very impressed with your work. Congratulations once again.

I'm sure there will be others who would enjoy reviewing your site and please enjoy the variation in opinions.
