Hi Callum,

Searching for "carbon credits" on Google matches 15,100, 000 results. Yours is possibly in there somewhere . It just depends on how popular your site is compared to others and what the quality of the content is.

Once again that matches a huge number of results: 668,000. Each of those 668,000 sites want to be first or on page one of the SERPS so you can see that it is an extremely competitive field. If you can tell me your site name I would like to have a look and just see the emphasis and the unique aspects of your site.

It may just require more content or regular updating or whatever to get your site in view. I'm hoping.

Hi Callum,

Placing your site domain name in the search box will always bring your site to the top f the list after it is registered by Google, that's really just a proof that it is indexed by Google.

It's the search queries that you are more interested in. This does take time and effort. As I said there are 668,000 sites in the last example all competing to get onto the first page of Google SERPS. Everyone of these sites is in the same situation. To get there the site must have outstanding content and be well received by the viewers. Meta Keywords are not used by Google or Bing & Yahoo at all. It's content primarily this has been stated by the senior engineer of Google Webmasters team, Matt Cutts. The search engines compile their own keywords for each site and they won't tell you what the keywords are.

It really just takes adding fresh quality and original content on a regular basis. Your site also is not likely to hit number one page and stay there without work. It does require that you keep working on your site.

Have you seen the Tutorials by Yola on Site Promotion etc? These give you a bit of background although some of the info has changed because that's the way the Search Engines work. The formulae they use are not published to prevent manipulation of the important aspects of a site being used by lesser sites to boost their ranking within the search engines. The search engines want it to be unbiased and objective and they want to offer their searchers the best information from within their database of sites that are most closely matched to the query.

Google webmasters Blog is another excellent resource for identifying or at least interpreting the current status of what is good and bad in creating your site with respect to search engine identity and promotion, at least in Googles eyes.

Your site name is http://alternativeinvestmentadvice.co.uk I think.

If you can stand back a little and think of the way that users are likely to search for information contained in your site, this sort f gives you a lead. I know difficult to be objective when you've put the effort into creating your site.

If you can identify likely search expressions for potential searchers, then ask your self does the site give the answer well? If it does then that topic is as good as you can make it at this point in time. If it doesn't then you need to add better relevant and novel information to the content. Run them through and see what sites come top and look at the way they have set out their information. Your site is well rounded I think. It's clean but remember it's complex because of the category of information. I think that if it is someone like me researching this info then I want to be able to understand the explanations on first pass.

With such a high powered informative site such as yours you do need to be devils advocate. Who are the people you feel will search for the category of information within your site. Will they easily understand the information? Will they enjoy interpreting the information.? Is it easy for a searcher to locate specific detail within your content according to their search criteria?

Hi Gop,

I have thought about this and for particular pages, i have targeted 3 key phrases that investors are likely to place in the search engine.

For example on the carbon credit page i have targeted searched as, carbon credits investment, how to buy carbon credits and carbon credit broker.

The first one has a high search volume the other 2 phrases have a medium search volume. I have placed these in the heading and also 3 times on the body of the page.

Gop have you got any recommendations when backlinks come into play?

I am at the moment targeting press releases and article directory. I am also using the social media like twitter and facebook.

However i would like more powerful backlinks any suggestions?

Hi Callum,

You are certainly approaching the SEO in a good way. The phrases in content can help but I would leave it only as one entry. Multi entries can appear as "stuffing" and manipulative unless it flows very naturally. If you can reinforce the phrases with supportive content in and around this then this is a more potent and "honest" way of highlighting the key phrase. Twitter and FB can help enormously. Publicise your site with FB ads etc. This works simply by getting your site-name in view at critical places.

Backlinks are important as early as possible. They are an indicator of quality and potency/legitimacy. They shouldn't be bought. Google are very actively working on this by their own reports and have implied that such backlinks may be discredited very soon. Backlink swapping is futile, Google are now focusing on objective measurement and identifying manipulated elements. So how to get those powerful backlinks? Once again it comes down to quality and originality and for the web-masters of the high ranking sites of similar interest to recognise your work and acknowledge it as a backlink.
