Category thumbnail issues

Hi. I have changed the size of my category picture thumbnails but one picture will not enlarge and remains at the original size. It is the same size file / graphic as the others, the same format - identical. I have deleted the picture and uploaded it again, logged out and back in, moved the position of the category picture (from first to the middle) but nothing makes any difference. Also I want to display my category thumbnails as two per row . Can anyone help me with these issues please? Thank you.

Hello Tiffany,

Are these Yola/Ecwid Online Store Category images or some other aspect?

If you can tell us your site domain name also then we can take a look with you.

Hi Gop. Thank you very much for your reply. They are my Yola store category images (I edited the CSS to remove the category text). My domain name is customnappycakes.com.au :) Also, I found reference to the Category item number per line (which is currently 3) in the html but could not find it in the site CSS. When I pasted the code into the CSS overrides window and changed the '3' to '2' per line nothing happened.

Thanks Tiffany,

I'll be working my way through the image sizing first, it may take a little time but I think there's an answer in the configuration of the category image display itself. I need to see if each cat image can be manipulated size wise independently.

The grid layout is not a problem and I;ll include that when I respond.

Your site really is stunning. the standard of product I would expect in an international magazine on the topic. You are obviously gifted with this craft and your hard work in sculpting these figures is really apparent. I have never seen anything as good as this on Yola built sites before.

I'll be back.

Hi again Gop.

Thank you for the compliment - nice of you. The 'cakes' are really fun to make actually. This is a small, secondary business I run which is lucky as I'm not getting any orders lol (I'm don't think i'm ranking on Google terribly well yet). I have another business which takes most of my time but I do all my own sites and graphics.

I am very appreciative of your assistance. I can puddle my way along quite well usually but I personally find the Yola setup a bit more difficult to customise.

I'm off to bed - it's midnight here. I will check up again tomorrow.

Thanks again!

Hi Gop.

I thought I would give you an update on my image display issue.

Yesterday I sent an email to Yola support. Afterwards as they can sometimes take up to 3 days to reply, I decided to post my question here.

Yola contacted me just now and informed me that the problem was due to my images being different sizes. This was not the case. All three images are and were 496 x 709 and created from the same template with minor colour and image differences.

Of course the images sizes were the first thing I had checked when I noticed the size problem but it should be noted that when I originally uploaded the category thumbnail images they all displayed correctly with no issues. The problem occurred when I edited the 'global' category thumbnail image size from 300 to 400. The two right hand images changed size while the left hand image did not. From then on regardless of what size I made them the left hand image was smaller than the other two.

Anyway, to cut a very long story short, the Yola support team member's email made me think. If my images are identical sizing the problem is obviously a glitch in the category coding. So, set the category thumbnail image size to the original setting of 300, removed all the images and saved the site. I then changed the category thumbnail image size to 350 and again saved the site. This time when I uploaded the images they all displayed at the same size.

I thank you so much for looking into this for me. I still need to find a way to change the grid display from 3 across to 2 across in the category image settings though so your help would still be very much appreciated. As I mentioned yesterday, when I edited the CSS nothing happened. I had also addressed this in my email to Yola but they did not comment on this part of my query. Given the reply I received I don't have a whole lot of confidence anyway I'm afraid lol.

Forgive the thesis. Have a great day! :)

Hi Tiffany,

Thought I'd follow up here. I'm so glad it's now displaying correctly for you! I did read something on our partner's site, Ecwid, about changes in thumbnail size not applying to images that were already uploaded, so it sounds like your suggestion of editing the thumbnail size before importing the images is a good one.

I do apologize for missing the display question in your email. The only way I have found to change your display grid is by using the product browser widget. You can read more about that here. The display grid cannot be modified by editing the CSS.

Ecwid has different integrations with different services, so I am going to reach out to them directly to see if there is an easier way in our widget to make these modifications. I'll follow up here once I hear back from them.

Thanks for your patience!

Hi Jen.

It's not a problem. The imagery issue as i mentioned in my email to you, is now rectified. If you could please follow up on the category image per row issue for me it would be great. I want to add more categories to my site and need to have them two per line to accomplish this at the size I have chosen to display the thumbnails at.

Tiffany.

Hi Tiffany,

Thanks for your patience. Ecwid has replied that in this case, you will want to use the product browser widget that I referenced previously.

In further detail, Ecwid stores are displayed using widgets. The main widget is called "Product Browser". It displays the store itself: products, categories, checkout, etc. The additional parameters such as number of products/categories per row are set in the integration code of this widget.

With Yola, the integration code of the "Product Browser" widget is generated automatically. This means we offer you the ability to set additional parameters and generate the necessary code for you.

We allow you to set some parameters (such as number of products per page), but not all.

As a workaround, you can generate your own product browser widget and further modify the parameters. You can adjust its settings to your preference and insert this code with the HTML Widget instead of the usual Yola Online Store Widget.

I hope that helps!

Kind regards,
Jen
