Littleus - remember when we did the change over - we did it and it had a problem and Monique fixed it for us - i think this is where the problem lies.

Alex - yes it sort of does - http://hexhaminfo.yolasite.com

Yes... I remember that Lee. I've been meaning to follow up on that as this obviously did not seem to work. Hopefully now a Yola employee will be able to fix this on their end.

I don't use www either but many still want to link to me and add www....I went to Google's Webmaster Tools and set a domain preference in settings. Now all of the www links show as pointing to my site that is http and before they were not. This was making me appear as two sites ....I am curious if the staff here thinks that setting a domain preference might help you.

Duke, what changeover are you talking about, the name from syntha to yola? I quickly changed to Yolasite before getting too far into the build, so this should not be a factor!

Hi Kent - we're looking into this for Lee (it's not related to .yolasite.com), thank you for your concern!

You do not need to type the w.w.w. as every address on the www requires it, so is put in there automatically. Just like 666 in everyones S.S. Number. Remember, it is the world wide web and anything listed there will have its address where you see it or not!

"www.domain.com" and "domain.com" are two completely different addresses.

It's an historical aspect. When servers at various institutions were much smaller. They would assign internet serving to one server, the "www" server, and others to another server of the same domain.

Now we have a legacy where there is no need for reference to a specific server but the memory continues. Many informed people wouldn't use the "www" in setting up there domain, but there is still a problem that being two things. Some users almost automatically type in "www.domain.com" and this would have to be redirected to go to the true "domain.com". This is part of this discussion. The other aspect of it is that some search engines treat the "www.domain.com" and "domain.com" as completely different as do some SEO facilities.

It's the redirection that is the issue at hand as Lee has mentioned

Hi All

We are investigating this issue to find out why domains pointed to Yola are redirecting with the "www". My understanding is that your primary domain should be whatever you set up with your domain registrar. However, this does not seem to be the case, and a redirect does seem to be in effect. It will likely take a few days before I have a final answer for you.

In the meantime, you will not lose any traffic. You could configure your GWT for www.domain.com, or you could wait for an answer from us.

My apologies for this - I will definitely get back to you as soon as I know more.

Hi guys - any news on this yet? - i understand your busy people but id love to get it sorted out - i now have over 500 pages listed in google but my site is only 270 pages. They have listed all the pages twice from the 2 addresses - and worse than that ALL the pages without the www. are now reported as errors - 270 errors in my webmasters account.

I understand you will be working on it, i just really dont want to be penalised for it. ANy news would be good news right now.

Hi Lee

I have logged this bug and I know the engineers are working on it. I have made a note to ping them for an update on Monday. I am assured that you will not lose any traffic or be penalized for this, and once we fix it the error messages will go away. If you are concerned I could suggest configuring your GWT account with the "www" and you can change it back again after the fix. I am sorry it is taking awhile, but I was warned that this would be the case. All I have to offer at this point is my assurance that we have not forgotten.

Monique -

Any updates?

From what i can see the majority of the Yola users domains dfont do this so i presume i have a incorrect setting or file associated with my account folder.

Any news would be good news - without the www. is by far the stronger in SEO terms.

Hi Lee,
Ok, I have spoken with an engineer and there is light at the end of the tunnel. Very soon this will be fixed and you will be able to set the canonical domain so that all others will 301 redirect to it. Thank you for your patience, it won't be long!

Any news guys?

Ive been waiting super patiently.

I'm starting to get penalised from google big time - all my good hard seo work was done without the www. in mind.
