I have made changes in my free package published site but I am told that I need to publish again and then I am directed to select a new domain name. Am I doing something wrong ?

Hello Paul,

May I ask if you have unpublished your site recently?

The reason I ask is that if you unpublish a free site then it takes your yolasite sub-domain away from you. This sub-domain name will probably be available again unless someone else has grabbed it in the meantime. It's different to a custom domain where it keeps your domain idle but waiting.

There may be other reasons that I am unaware of.

Hi Gop.

No, didn't unpublish it. I just double-checked by opening the site normally outside of Yola.

Paul, hi.

This maybe something that you are very familiar with and I apologise if this is the case.

When you make a change to the content of your site then you need to publish again to update the content contained. This process is required for all and any changes.

What is really confusing me is the prompt that you mention. I am not seeing this on my freesite so I can't quite visualise the importance of this prompt.

I'm thinking here that it is a simple upsell as a marketing strategy but can be ignored and you just proceed as if it is not there? I'm not seeing this either but have in the back of my memory a recollection that something similar has occurred in time past.

I'm wondering if this sort of fits in with your experience of this.

Hi Paul,

Can you share your website address with us so we can take a look for you on our end? I agree with Gop that it sounds like you unpublished your website if you are being prompted to select a domain name so I'd like to investigate that further.

Thank you khun Laura for grabbing this thread. I think it does need to be visualised for a good solution.

thanks for the replies so far. The concern I have is that in re-publishing, the way it's coming now , I would lose the existing domain name. The site is www.simple-sites.yolasite.com

HI Paul,

I can assure you publishing your site to the web will not make you lose your existing domain name. In reviewing your account I see you have two sites called "simple sites" in your account, one capitalized and one lower case. Only one of these is currently published to the web. The one that is currently published under www.simple-sites.yolasite.com can be updated by clicking the "Publish to the web" button. The other one does need a different domain associated with it.

There may also be a custom domain suggestion pop up causing some confusion while trying to update www.simple-sites.yolasite.com. If you still feel you are unable to publish changes to www.simple-sites.yolasite.com, please let me know if you would allow me to try re-publishing it for you to see if I can reproduce the problem you're experiencing.
