Am I correct in reading that in order to change your site from the yola (yolasite.com) address to a .co.uk or similar, where this was free to do is now going to cost $4.95 in order for us to change our site? I mean come on, and if I took out the bronze package and changed my site to a .co.uk and then cancelled it 2 months down the line does this mean my site would no longer be able to be hosted by yola?????

Hi Craig,

The free .co.uk was part of the GBBO program and allowed you one .co.uk domain free. Any others would be charged for by the registrar. 4.95 GBP is a good price.

As far as cancelling a Bronze subscription you are correct, any custom domain published sites would stop being published on that domain. If however your site was concurrently published to a yolsite sub-domain then this would still be available

Hi Craig,

Trust all goes well with your site building generally?

If you registered your domain originally within a year or maybe within 24 months it should still be available for your use free. You would need to type that domain into the domain list when you come to type it in(?).

I think that you may have issues trying to apply this retrospectively because they probably don't have a system for managing this specifically

I think you will find hat the .co.uk is only available as a free domain on your first sign up with GBBO. If however you have a client/friend who wants this then they can sign up for it with their own email address and it should be available for them. It's a one per customer deal I understand. I also think that it is only available to people who don't have an existing business website as it was created to get people online not to give existing users a free domain ( ) I don't know how they monitor this though.

.co.uk domains are not free per se, only those associated with the GBBO program for a limited period (2 years if I recall correctly).

The GBBO sign up address is: http://www.gbbo.co.uk/ (I think)

Yola have a portal https://www.yola.com/gbbo but I think you will find that if you have Yola cookies set that it will jump on over to your existing account and not give you the option of accessing the sign-up.

Finally if none of those work then you could try the Google portal which also is in bed with the GBBO program using Google Sites as the builder and I know nothing about how they administer the domains.

what I'm saying GOP is that I have registered a .co.uk address with fasthosts so now I have been given 2 forwarding addresses to put into yolasite in order for my site name to be changed so is this not possible unless I sign up to a bronze account??

Hello Craig

To point your external domains to Yola, you will need one of our hosting packages, Yola Bronze, Yola Silver, or Yola Gold.

Remember that you will get much more than domain hosting with our feature packages. With Yola Silver you will have access to Premium Styles, Mobile and Facebook Publishing, CSS editing, etc., and Yola Gold will give you fantastic SEO tools to improve the SEO performance of your website and attract more visitors.

The GBBO programme is designed to give British businesses an easy start to go online by providing benefits for the beginning. Later participants of this programme will be charged at our applicable rates.

Let me know if you have more questions?
