Hi,

i am using cu3ox to make a flash picture gallery, I have got to the point where i have made the flash file and uploaded the images & data files to file manager on yola. Now i need to change the HTML so it points it to the images and data saved on file manager. This involves me opening up the HTML in notepad and editing the data but i have no idea what im doing. Can anyone help?

Kind Regards,

Sam

Hi Sam,

Unfortunately the HTML you pasted is being interpreted by the forum and it's trying to render it. That's why there are holes in the display of your HTML.

If you can try wrapping the HTML in code tags
< code > your HTML here < /code >. (remove the spaces after the <characters and before the > characters).

If that doesn't work then you can take a screen shot of the code and paste it as an image here, with the "Add image" button at the bottom right of a new comment window

Sam,

You really only need the cu3ox.swf file to run this movie. The sitebuilder has a flash playing facility already available as a widget which will play the movie.

If you need to style this specifically ie; surrounds , backgrounds etc then it has to be done from scratch.

If you can let me know we can take it from there.

i have tryed to upload the file using the widget but but it doesnt seem to work. am i just going to the multimedia tab and selecting the flash SFW widget? I have tryed to add the file i created but it just shows up as a blank box.

I read an article on the yola forum (it was a few years old mind) and it suggested to upload all the image files and data files to yola then edit the HTML so it all points to where the files are stores, which would be yola.

Thanks in advance,

Sam

ahh just looked into it more and the file i have saved is a HTML file. The default programme i can open it with if firefox and when it opens it opens a window on firefox that plays the slideshow i created. Do i somehow need to save the file as an SFW?

It sounds as if FireFox is your default browser and other people will have different browsers set as their default and that is why it is opening the HTML file in FireFox. For example I have set Chrome as my default so any HTML file will open in Chrome.

swf files can't be or rather probably can't be converted easily to HTML files and vice versa.

If you can tell me the file extension of the file you uploaded that will geive me some indication of the file type: is it cu3ox.swf or is it cu3ox.htm or similar?

Here is the procedure for embedding a Flash file (swf file) into your site: Embedding a Flash File

the programe saves the files as html. I have tryed to see if it will save it as an sfw but there isnt an option for it. So the file saved is.html

the instructions say to embed the html it onto the website. Do you know to do that? probably going to be the easiest way to put some flash images on there.

unless you know any good programmes for making flash slideshows that will save as a flash file that i can put on the website?

Kind regards,

Sam

Hi Sam,

The way to add HTML is with the HTML widget which is available under the "Basic" selection of widgets.

Flash isn't a good option these days as it isn't supported by a number of OS including the Apple iOS system and therefore flash movies can't be seen on these type devices. Flash is undergoing a deprecation at this time in favour of HTML5, at least for the present.

There are a number of Slider programs and the free ones are quite sophisticated in their setup. Boxslider is one but quite difficult to style until you have experience with HTML and CSS. Another good one is easy slider which is somewhat easier.

There are a number of commercial sliders available and a search would easily locate these.

Producing Flash shows from scratch is quite involved and not recommended for the novice but there are a few free flash sliders available around the web. I've lost touch with what's out there but once again a search would easily locate them and then read the reviews.

For Yola built sites you really need the system to produce the SWF file for a Flash show and then you can upload this with the Yola inbuilt Flash widget as you mentioned. The default configuration is automatic and you can style it within the limitations of the editor available for this within the widget. Additional styling should be made with the use of HTML

Just an outline on embedding Flash movies or similar.

There are three basic elements to a Flash movie:
The movie file: ie the .swf file
The setup parameters: ie the HTML
the engine or projector as an analogy, which is generally a .js file.

The content file or movie is the swf file. This is generally uploaded into your File Manager and got to from there.

The HTML is really the instruction to the system on how to present the movie. Things like the screen size; looping or once only; sound; background; borders and other things are held within the HTML. The other thing that the HTML holds is the instruction and reference to the movie engine which is generally a javascript file. This can be housed on your site within your file manager or referenced remotely from a third party server.

Yola has gone a step further and has embedded the HTML within the Flash widget and somewhere on their own servers they have installed the movie engine and this is referenced from the widget. This makes the whole setup fairly seamless. For simplicity's sake they have setup a default style for the movies which will display the movie in a system of basic parameters which won't interfere with sitebowners personal styles. They also allow you to modify this by adding additional HTML and by turning various switches on and off.

Hope this gives you an overview of Flash movies.
