I would like to change the actual name of my site. I can't do that under advanced settings. We have changed the name of our company and the previous name is not relevant. However, anytime someone links to the page from say facebook, it comes up with the old name. Please help

Hi Phil,

Have you set the "window title" of your pages to the new name of your site (this is what shows up when you post a link on Facebook)? You can change the window title in Page > Page Properties.

If so, I think that Facebook's servers are caching your site's name and displaying the old name when you post it on Facebook. Unfortunately, there is no way to clear the cache of Facebook like you can do on your browser. But I think the problem is just with the window title.

Thanks Nathan. I've changed all the window titles as suggested. Will facebook's servers change over time??

Yeah, they should change within the next 24-48 hours, but usually sooner.

Hello Phil

To change the name of your website, especially for all future pages that you will create, please also see our tutorial Change name of my site.

With regards to the time it will take Facebook and search engines to update their data, I'm not as optimistic as Nathan that this will happen in 24-48 hours because from our experience it can take days to weeks.

But if it changes for your after 48 hours, please let us know and prove me wrong! :-)
