ok i have added alternative content to my flash - i have tidy'd up the code and started a new thread becasue i need some help.

Firefox is now good and works as i want it to

firefox with flash

firefox with flash disabled

firefox with flash off and image unavailable

Thats all perfect - just how i want it to work.

The problem is IE7, can someone tell me why this happens and how to fix it?

This is the code used.

<!--
<object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" width="728" height="90" id="myFlashContent"> <param name="movie" value="resources/swf/hughthompson0309.swf" />
<object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="resources/swf/hughthompson0309.swf" width="468" height="60">
<br><img src="resources/images/hughpicture.JPG" alt="Hugh Thompson Butchers 01434220033" />
</object>
</object>
-->

Many thanks to anyone who can help.

I am sorry but I have no idea why IE is handling the code differently to the other browsers (although I do know that this happens frequently)

Maybe someone else will come to the rescue.

I have spent the last 30 minutes playing around with this and I am too tired to think straight. The only thing that I can say to try is add a blank text widget between the text widget and the HTML widget with the code for your flash.

Sometimes codes have a habit of combining themselves and if you don't leave that space they then sometimes do the side by side thing... And yes it is noticeable in IE only.

It has been 6 months since I had that problem but as I recall that it what I tried.

If that fails then what I recommend it to place it in a separate 2 column widget under the 2 column widget with your text. This automatically separates and protects individual codes from interacting with one another.

Happy site building

thanks ed, the widget idea is valid because the fact a text box is above it seems to tell the code to behave and stay where it is.

My home page works great now.I think it is because its in a 2 column box it behaves in IE7. i now have also added a flash download link.

check it out, this is without flash

and this is without flash without the alt image available, i might try to make thte text hexam.info into a link to my contact page.
