Coming next week: The site builder learns some new tricks!

Hi everyone

I wanted to stop by and let you know about some exciting updates we have coming next week. First, some background:

A few months ago we interviewed a bunch of our customers in person, and asked them to show us what they like and don't like about Yola's site builder. We then asked our wonderful customer support team what they can tell us about all the ideas you all send us on a daily basis to make the site builder better.

Our design and engineering teams then started working to make things better, and next week we will be launching the first batch of those improvements (yes, there's lots more to come over the next few months!).

I don't want to spoil the surprise, but among other things you can look forward to a cleaner look and feel in the site builder, clearer instructional text, and a new feature that always shows the publish status of your site (no more wondering if your changes have been published or not!).

I also want to let you know that we are very aware of how disruptive any change can be to you, so we are taking an incremental approach with these improvements. This is only the first release in a long-term project that will have at least 3 phases. As we roll out each batch of improvements, we will wait a while to get your feedback before we move on to the next phase.

Once we launch next week (most likely Tuesday), I will come back and write a detailed post on all the improvements and our reasoning behind each one. As you might expect, logins will need to be disabled for this release, but we will give you more specifics as the time comes closer.

We're really excited about this, and can't wait for you to see how we're making changes to address the issues you've been telling us about. See you all next week!

Lets hope they are for the good, and some good changes like different styles of columns like being able to added a 3 column insert instead of only a 2 and maybe a member log in!!

Looking forward to it though

We too are looking forward to the new changes! In case you were not aware, you can create a 3 column insert by dragging a Column Widget over and then dragging another Column Widget over and placing inside one of the columns. You will now have 3 columns! :) Membership login is not part of our release this time around. As always though, we're constantly trying to make improvements. We see an exciting future ahead!

Hey guys - thanks for your patience! I know I shouldn't have specified a day -- you just never know with software :)

We had to push things out a little bit, but now plan on releasing the changes sometime tomorrow (Wednesday).

Please hang in there with us!

I've just had to leave updating my work on my website so that Yola can begin the upgrades, but no problem - need to walk the dogs anyway : ) I'm really looking forward to the "third column", as I always seem to need to centre my stuff. YAAAA!

That would be nice, but not this time round! To avoid disappointment I recommend reading Rian's post carefully. It gives you a pretty good idea of what is in this release. The focus is on making the site builder easier to use, not adding any new features as such, this time anyway!

I can't say for sure at this point. It is always on the list of features we would like to build, but it is not at the top of the list just yet. However, this is a good place to add your vote and let our product team know that this is a feature you care about!

I just got kicked out too, but am very excited to hear about the updates. I'm actually new to Yola and am just now getting familiar with the current Site Builder so I'm nervous to see how much will be changing. :)

We know how frustrating that can be Tristen. Your published site is still fine, do you have a chat or comment box widget that you can access direct from your site to let your users know about the situation?

Use this down time wisely .

I see so many wanting to get their sites indexed by Google .

While Yola is down , Go to a high pr article directory and write a 350 word article for a keyword relative to your sites, link back to your site in the resource box ... submit .

Google loves sites like Enzine Articles and their spiders crawl them several times a day if not a hour .

Go to digg and and bookmark 2 or 3 of your pages .

Trying to get indexed by waiting on Google to come by is a slow process.

Go to where their spiders hang out . When that site is crawled , they will follow your links ( make sure the site is do follow ) straight to your site .

Instant indexing .

I have sites indexed less than an hour old .

Can't wait to see the new WYSIWYG

I have a lot of domains spread out over a lot of host . Yola ranks well with all of them

I'm sure most of you are already playing in the sandbox, but for those sitting on the sidelines, this thread details all the changes you waited so patiently for!
