Concerns about moving our own domain to Yola

I have completed by website but am concerned about publishing to Yola as we own our own domain which is hosted by a local company who does our tech support. We get numerous purchase orders every day and all correspondence with our customers is by email.

I've heard it can take 14 days to get the website up and running. Is this true of our email as well? Also, we are easily found with google at the moment. Will this change once we are with Yola? Will it be like starting all over with a brand new website? Thanks so much Debra

Hi Debra,

The 14 day period is variable but can be cut down to 0 days by creating your site on Yola before publishing. Rather than transferring your domain a faster and as an effective approach would be to point your domain to Yolas servers and retain the registration with your current domain registrar. Pointing takes a max period of 48 hours but generally is only a few hours.

If you are using the same domain name, then you shouldn't suffer any significant down effects from changing over including Google rankings and SERPS.

Your email would need to be well thought out since changing over may disrupt the service if it's a domain named email. Once again this should be a minimal disruption but you need to be prepared and organised to make this a smooth change-over. Yola's support staff I would think would assist with this transition and help make it smooth for you and with you.

Hello Debra

As Gop mentioned, pointing your domain to Yola would be the fastest way to go, and it will only take up to 48 hours until your Yola website will be up and running under your pointed domain. Here is a link to the tutorial: Publish to a domain you already own.

However, Gop is right that your e-mail is something you will need to discuss with your domain registrar. As they manage your domain, you will only be able to have e-mail related to your domain with them. So you can ask them if you can continue having e-mail with them even if you point your domain away from them.

If you can't, then I'd recommend to transfer your domain tu us. Please note that only domains with the extensions .com, .net, .org., .biz can be transferred to Yola. When your domain is managed by us after the transfer has been completed, you can buy Yola Mail and set up your custom e-mail again with us. The transfer process can take a little longer, but has never taken 14 days from my experience, which would be quite a long time. For more information please see our tutorial Transferring your domain to Yola.
