Copyright protection

I am an artist and will be uploading fine art painting jpegs to my site. How is my copyright protected? Can someone download these jpegs to his desktop without my permission? I would be using low res files but do not want the images used or reproduced by others.

If you know a little bit of CSS and html, i will suggest you to use a method that visitors unable to copy the picture from your site.

There is nothing you can do to stop someone that knows what they are doing that wants to copy an image from your site . . . Better to watermark them to make them as useless as possible and still look good. If you are in the USA get your copyrights filed as a collection you can keep adding to.Much cheaper that way and since you are selling them yourself you don't need to worry about publishing deals which is a whole other animal....Here is the link if you decide to file copyrights http://www.copyright.gov/
