Crawl error - Google looking for page with non-existent url!

GWMT gives me a crawl error for 1 subpage: 'statues1' on my site: www.bonaparte-art.com

The weird thing is it's looking for the page in a place that doesn't exist: http://www.bonaparte-art.com/bonapart...

There is no such page addressed like that, and I did not create that address.
The correct address of the page in question is: http://www.bonaparte-art.com/statues1...

Where did Google or my Sitemap? get the wrong url from?

And more importantly, what can I do to fix it?

Cheers
Paul

Hello Paul

This is not my area of expertise but I believe you may have had at one point a page by this name. Subsequently, this page was indexed but have since then been removed and as a result, the page link no longer works. The next time Google crawls your site, the information will be updated.

I hope this helps. Please let us know if you still have questions.

Hi Sanja

That would make sense, BUT...

I didn't.

That's the weird thing. At no stage whatsoever did I create a page with bonaparte-art in it. That's the name of my domain. My pages all have short names: Home, Statues, Busts, Gallery, Ordering. And the only subpage is Statues1.

So there's no way I would have added my domain name to a page name. And I get to see all my page names every day in Sitebuilder. I'd have noticed if at some point one of them had bonaparte-art in it. And if I'd done that, my pic and text links wouldn't have linked to it.

Truly bizarre!

My theory is some kind of mix-up between sitemaps for the www.version and non-www version. I've since deleted the sitemap for the non-www version.

Hopefully someone can tell me how this happened.

I'll be pleased when Google corrects the issue soon, but in the meantime it can't find one of the most important pages on my site. Much oddness!

Cheers
Paul

Hello Paul

I'm not sure why this is happening. I will have someone from our SEO Team come onboard and see if they can help further with this. Thanks for your patience!

Hi Paul,

Hmm, that is odd. I have taken a look at your sitemap here: http://www.bonaparte-art.com/sitemap.xml and don't see a page like that. Is GWT still giving you that error? I think this was most likely just a mistake on GWT's side and it will work itself out when they go through your sitemap again. If you're still seeing that, possibly post this question in GWT's forum and see if anyone else has seen similar oddities.

Hi Emmy.

The error has disappeared. Now replaced with 2 new crawl errors from some bizarre site that has nothing to do with mine. The wonders of GWMT!!! Anyway, Goggle seems to be catching up with my site's content, and it was an error on its part (as I suspected/hoped), so that's good.

Thanks,
Paul
