I currently have a Yola website (www.foodpantrysolutions.com), but I want to create a new website using Wordpress and keep the existing URL. Can someone advise me on what my first step should be?

Hi FPSolutions,

You need to map your Yola registered domain to Wordpress servers. This is done within the Yola DNS Management facility. It is straight forward and will usually be completed within 48 hours of setting it up and generally much faster. There is no additional cost to do this. Domain Management will be retained by Yola as will the billing.

You need to refer to the tutorials

Wordpress: Use a Domain You Already Own (Domain Mapping)

and

Yola: Changing the name servers: Here's how to change the name servers on your Yola-bought domain

Your other option is to transfer the registration of your domain to Wordpress. This may have additional costs by WP. In this case management of your domain would subsequently be managed and charged for by WP

Thank you for your reply. The tutorial you referred to is for wordpress.com. Is it possible to map the domain using wordpress.org?

Oops.
Can you tell us who will host your new WP site? This will be where you will need to map your domain to.

Yola cannot host a WP site as the operating systems are completely different and incompatible. Yola will allow you to manage your domain and point it to a second host with the Nameserver facility. That is called mapping.

Helllo FPSolutions,

Thank you Gop for your excellent reply.  It is indeed possible to use your Yola bought domain on another webhost.

I'd suggest you contact your new website host and ask them for the nameservers and IP addresses to which you need to point your domain. You will then be able to add these via your DNS setting as shown in the shared Yola Tutorial above.

Let me know how this goes and if we can assist you further!

Kind Regards,
Saskia

Oh ok, I didn't know we would need a new host. Will probably go with either bluehost or arvixe.

Thank you!

Bluehost seems to be a preferred host for WP sites. Very best luck for this.
