You asked for it, and it’s here. Our new Picture Gallery widget is a smooth, easy path to creating a full photo gallery on your Yola site.

No more dragging and dropping individual photos and resizing them on your site, or using a third party application to create a photo gallery. With the Picture Gallery widget, you create your entire gallery in an easy-to-manage lightbox, filling it with as many pictures as you'd like. Then you simply drag and drop the lightbox gallery into your site – done!
Picture Gallery WidgetPicture Gallery Widget

The Yola Picture Gallery widget is a great way to quickly add larger collections of photos to your Yola site. You can use it to:

  • Show off your work with depth and impact.

  • Demonstrate your results with before-and-after image galleries.

  • Share pictures of events you’ve hosted.

The possibilities are endless. The features are easy to use. The benefits are huge.

Our new Picture Gallery widget lets you:

  • Create a simple, elegant photo gallery quickly with a lightbox.

  • Automatically add large sets of photos to your site in batches, rather than dragging and dropping pictures individually.

  • Allow visitors to see your images as easily as possible.

  • Add hover caption text to your images to identify people, products, or processes (captions appear when your visitor’s cursor hovers over the photo).

  • Edit, reorder, add or remove pictures from your gallery, quickly and easily.

  • Choose from among four great styles to custom-fit your site’s design.

Want one more reason to try out the Picture Gallery widget? When you add fresh content to your site (like a new, easy-to-manage photo gallery), you can increase visitors and page views.

Check out the new Picture Gallery widget – and add even more impact to your site today!

Hi PaoB,

I have responded to your previous query regarding Tumblr. We were experiencing problems with the it, so it's temporarily unavailable while our engineers work on resolving the problem.

We will let you know when this has been resolved!

Hi Info,

You can place a Flash gallery onto your site with the appropriate code. There are a number of these available on the web, both free and subscription. Discoverable by search.

A better option is a jquery gallery which allows the gallery to be displayed on iOS devices

Hello irishshogun,

It is not possible to add a link to a picture when using the Picture Gallery Widget. I'm sorry. I hope you can still make use of this feature though!

Hello Paul

How would you picture an album to look like?
What you can definitely do is add multiple Picture Galleries to your page and place them e.g. onto a Custom Panel Widget to make it look like an album.

If you find a provider of an album that you have in mind on the internet and they offer HTML code to add to your own website, you can use this code for your Yola website, too.

Thanks for replying Stefan,

Yes, I hear what you're saying about multiple galleries on a custom panel, but that is a heck of a lot of work and time is the one thing we don't have. We create an album after every show I do - probably 4 albums a week, which are currently posted to Facebook, but I would prefer to have them on our own site. I want to be able to upload a batch of pics as one album, choose a pic to be the album cover/icon, give the album a caption or album name, and be able to give each pic in the album a caption. Don't want hover captions.

Could you recommend a third party album that will suffice?

Hello Paul

We can recommend JAlbum. JAlbum is a program which you can use to create albums that you can embed into your site. JAlbum offers a 30 day trial run for you to try it. They have numerous styles from which you can choose. Here are the steps to add JAlbum to your site.

  1. You will need to create an account with JAlbum. It's free.

  2. Once you've confirmed your sign-up, click on "Create new album".

  3. Upload your Photos.

  4. Click on "Info" to give your photos some descriptions.

  5. To select the kind of album you want, select "Design".

  6. Under your "Settings" tab, select the options you want available.

  7. Once you're done creating your site, then click on the "Save and exit" button on the right.

  8. You should now see a "Congrats! Here's your JAlbum". On that dialog box, copy the link URL.

  9. In your Sitebuilder, drag over an HTML Widget and place the following code:
    <iframe src="your link URL goes in here" width="900px" height="1000px"></iframe>
*You may need to fiddle with the width and height of your iframe to accommodate your album.

  10. Save and update your site.

You should see your slick-looking album working on your site!

If you wish to have access to more customizations and album options, it is best to use the download version of JAlbum. This is also free. You can download it here. Once you've created and published your album, go to your JAlbum account online. Locate and hover over the photo album you want to embed and click on "Share". Then follow Steps 8-10 to embed into your site.

Yola is such a massive let down when it comes to adding good extras for our sites.
It always turns out that we have to use third party apps and coding because our host has nothing to offer for our money.

These third party apps always turn out to be expensive or monthly payment.

It is time yola caught up to 2014 with building options in our editors so that we dont need to go anywhere else.

You do know the wheel was invented already and there's no point waiting for that to happen before you catch up to 2014

To your point, it's because the wheel has already been invented that we do not try to build every possible functionality one might need. JAlbum, along with many other 3rd party options, is free. We feel it makes more sense to leverage much of the amazing work being performed by others so we can focus our energy on our Sitebuilder.

Has anyone found the 'loading' for these pictures on the published website a bit slow? Mine are very slow to load on my site.
Is it because the original image file is too big? As I thought these would have automatically been compressed when uploaded?

Any help appreciated, as I'd really like to start using this widget instead of adding larger photos on my pages.
Thanks

Hi Jodie,

How big are the originals in file size?
The File Manager is slow at this time so it may not be your images.

I'd say a couple MB. They are orginally uploaded straight from the camea and cropped.

That could be a significant problem. A file size in the order of 100 Kb is pretty well optimal for screen display of an image say 500 x 300 px or larger even.

Ok, so best to reduce the original file first and then re-upload. Will try that way then. Thanks

Hi, I am not sure if this is the right place to add this question but I would like my picture gallery to scroll through automatically, i.e. show only one picture at a time out of say 4 that I have in my gallery. Is there an easy way to do this ?
Thanks

Hello Marjory,

This requirement is called a "slider" of which there are a few. I think Easy Slider is good and it works well with Yola.

I guess easy is a relative term but I'm happy to help you set it up.
Do you have Yola Silver? The reason I'm asking is because the system uses a library of javascript files that are best hosted on your site. Silver allows this easily but Bronze and Free don't. That doesn't prevent you from using Easy Slider it just gives me the direction as to how to set this part of it up.

The reference to Easy Slider is here. Scroll down to near the end of the article and you will see the demos and you can decide if this is the kind of thing you want to pursue.

Flash is beautiful but there are new limitations evolving.

People accessing your site with devices such as iPad's and iPhones won't be able to see your Flash additions unless they have additional not so commonly installed interpretors added to their devices. This really can be a big negative as more and more people use these kinds of devices for accessing the web.

How can I add pictures to the front page of my store? All I get when I try to upload pictures is an icon of a camera. Also, when I click on the camera icon, it goes to the shopping bag and the picture there is so tiny you can hardly see it. I know that you can click the link for a larger image but I want pictures on my front page and not camera icons and I want larger pictures on the shopping bag.

Hello Robin,

where are you trying to add the pictures to when you are in editing mode with your Yola Online Store? If you just add them within the text about your product, it won't show as the main (and thus larger) image for your product.

Please go to your Yola Onlineshop Control Panel and click on a product you want to edit. When you are on the page where you can edit the description of your product, scroll down to the very bottom of the page where you will find an area to upload your main product image. Please use this option to upload your picture, and it will be shown as the product picture in your Yola Online Store.

If that doesn't solve the problem, please provide your URL, and let me know on which of your websites you added your Yola Online Store and for which product you are getting the camera icon. I'll be happy to have a look at it.

Yes, that should be possible if you add the required code to an HTML Widget on your Yola website.

The only thing you'd need to do is to drag and drop an HTML Widget onto your page and add your code to the HTML editor.

The thumbnails in the Gallery widget are awfully small. My uploaded files are about 400px wide. Can the images in my gallery be made larger?

Hi Lou,

Currently the size cannot be adjusted though we have logged that as a feature request. One way to address this for noe is to add a picture widget directly above or adjacent to your gallery widget that gives visitors a better idea of what they are in store for if they opt to click on your thumbnails to enlarge the image.

Hello Jessica

Have you tried to follow the steps of our Using the Flickr Gallery tutorial? You won't need to work with HTML code if you use our Flickr Widget. You'll just need to make sure your gallery is set to be publicly accessible in your Flickr account and to add searchable tags to it which you will need to add in the Flickr Widget on Yola to embed your Flickr gallery.

The present photo gallery is very outdated.
The options are ... hold on a moment.. there really is no options to shout about..

We can upload, choose frame and thats it.

there's no autoplay through photos.. no transition FX.. no anything really ..

anychance of this being brought into the year 2014/2015 anytime soon.. cheers

Jessica .. this little site lets you upload up to 10 photos for free and create html that you can use with yola html widget.
I would advise all photos being cut, trimmed to same size and also use the "Slow" speed option and from 300 upwards to 450 size.

Its a simple little way to slideshow some sample pics
Only bug is that there will be the name picasion in bottom corner of show.
