The Flickr Lightbox widget allows you to quickly and easily create a slick photo gallery with thumbnails that link to larger images. Here's how it is done:
1) In the Content sidebar in SynthaSite, open the Photo Gallery folder
2) Drag and drop a Flickr Lightbox widget onto your page
3) In the properties sidebar: enter your Flickr account email address (usually a Yahoo! address) in the email address field
4) In the "Photo Count" field, enter the number of images you want to display.
5) In the "search" field, enter the tags of the photos you want to pull from Flickr (make sure you have added tags to your Flickr photos or you will not get the desired resultl)
6) Specify how many columns you want for your photo gallery
7) Click on the Image Size drop down menu to select: small square, thumbnail or medium sized images.
8) Finally, choose between a "modern" and a "plain" style for your photo gallery images.
9) Click the Apply button to update your photo gallery.

All done! Now save and preview your page. You will have a gallery of clickable images. In the top right hand corner of the large view of the images, click the "next" button to view the next image in the gallery. Click the "close" button when you are finished browsing through your gallery.

Note:
1) If there are privacy settings on your Flickr photos the search will not be successful. The photos need to be publicly available for it to work.

The Flickr TOS requires that photos shown on other sites link back to their photo page on Flickr. Any chance that you can change the "title" in the lightbox to link back to Flickr's photo page? Otherwise, I find the widget to be unusable as I'd rather not risk Flickr cancelling my account for TOS violations.

Hi Byron,

I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems getting your pictures to show up on your site. Could you try the following things for me, please?

* Check your privacy settings with Flickr - if the pictures you want are marked private, they will not show on your site.
* Make sure the tags you are using are accurate and match the ones on your photos.
* Make sure your pictures are classified as Photos on Flickr and not another category.
* Make sure that you have used the email address associated with your Flickr account (if you have more than one email).
* Be as specific as possible in your search terms.

Monique, is it possible to use a similar lightbox script for non flickr items? I created my site (www.dayolddonut.com) to get my resume up on google rankings, and I'd like to use an effect similar to light box to highlight some of my work samples as either pop up screenshots or actual PDF/scribd documents.

Any ideas?

(ps -- any news on webmaster code?)

Thanks!
Abid

Hi Ranona,

The tags that you have on your photos in Flickr are what will appear in your Flickr gallery, so you will need to add your tags there.

To remove photos from your Flickr photos you have two options. You can remove the tag from the photo in Flickr, then the search won't find that photo, or you can mark the photo as private, and the Flickr widget won't pick it up.

You will need to refresh/reapply your search after doing that, and of course save your page and republish your site.

Please let me know if this doesn't work for you.

I am having problems loading photos in to the gallery - for some reason it does not pick up the photos I want from the Flickr account. I have a yahoo address and a flickr web address - I have tried both and they don't work. Any ideas?

Hi Shazzy. The Flickr search is based on your email address and the tags you apply to your photos. My suggestion is that you add a specific, unique tag to the photos you want in your gallery and use only that tag in the properties sidebar in SynthaSite. You also need to specify the number of photos you want added to your gallery. You can add up to 30 per page. So if you are using the correct tag and request the number of photos that have that tag you should get the right results. Let us know if this is not working for you.

Hi Shazzy,

You can check whether you are using the correct email address by going to flickr.com and checking your account settings. Click on 'You', then 'Your Account', then 'Email' and the email address to use is next to 'Your contact email'.

Also check that your pictures have been set to 'public' otherwise they don't work.

how do you add tags to photos? I need more than "The tags that you have on your photos in Flickr are what will appear in your Flickr gallery, so you will need to add your tags there."

Hi trmulligan,

You add the tags to your photos when you are in your Flickr account. If you log in to your Flickr account you will see the option underneath each photo to add a tag to it.

Please let me know if you have difficutly with this.

hello

how to I create "Tags" or "tabs" in my website such that when a person is in it they can get access to my videos, photos and all the other stuff I got going on? Its irritating that I can do it because I was hoping to have the site done by now, but without the "tags/tabs" listed under "My Menu", its kinda useless and extremely pointless...!! Help!!!

Hi lesego - are you looking to create new pages and items on your menu? You can do this by clicking on 'New Page', filling in the name you would like to call your page and clicking ok. A link will be added to your menu automatically. I hope that helps!
