I wanna create a sitemap generator through www.freesitemapgenerator.com as recommended by Google. But to generate a sitemap they are demanding me to create the following things which i am not able to understand. Please! read the following instructions given to me and make me clear how to do it

" Sitemaps are generated by following all the links (max. 5,000) on your site. This can consume some bandwidth.
To make sure you are the webmaster of http://www.indianhunks.synthasite.com/ we ask you to put an empty file called

fsg7ab01.txt

in the root directory of http://www.indianhunks.synthasite.com/. This file will be fetched first, so make sure it is in place before you hit the continue button.

Not sure how to do this? It's just like creating and uploading any other .html file and make sure the file name is exactly the same as mentioned above. You don't have to put anything in it, just an empty file will do.

Click on continue when you have put the file in place."

I think that you just copy those leters into the text part of a new page that you would name "root directory".

To submit a your sitemap you would need access to the root directory of your site, which you do not have at present. I can tell you that when you publish a site with us we submit a sitemap to Google on your behalf. It is in the format that Google likes, and it benefits from SynthaSite's high Page Rank, so it has the best chance of driving traffic to your site.

We can work on a way to give you access to your site map in future, but we want you to be aware that we are doing the best we can for you in the meantime.

Anything Synthasite does on our behalf and does well is going to please the majority of us. However, right now I sense a lot of people are doing site match research, including checking the Synthasite tutorial section, needlessly. Perhaps if the info in your answer was elevated to a tutorial topic, there would be less duplication of effort. Also, the fact that the question matching feature on GS doesn't match site map and sitemap means those who look for site map won't easily find this post. So, some suggestions, if you can use them.

I do have a tiny question: how often are updates affecting our site maps submitted to Google?

Dismiss the next one that I posted just below this one and skip to the one with the URLs that actually are legible and visible. It's three down from here...

To Monique: All the better. Sounds terrific.
To mredsayshi: I'll look this over. Thanks for taking the trouble. Since I'm not a merchant and don't rely on Google too much I may wait for the company plan mentioned above but some are sure to appreciate your information. I'll be copying it to study for my own education certainly. Thank you.

try this

http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/

then put your synthesite website URL in the box (http://" ".synthasite.com/) your address or name in between the commas like this (http://honeybearplayhomes.synthasite....)

don't (Change frequency)

leave (Last modification) alone

press (Start)

when its done save or (Download un-compressed XML Sitemap) to your computer then save to your File manager then insert into your index page on the bottom as a file... (leave on you index page... do not delete.

then go here and type in your synthesite address

http://www.sitemapwriter.com/notify.php

don't change the (Search Engine) box and then click (Notify)

Ask.com seems not to be so friendly so you must use the following

Please submit using proper syntax - e.g.
<!--

http://submissions.ask.com/ping?sitem...

-->
as in mine it would be:
http://submissions.ask.com/ping?sitem...

with yours in this syntax return to

http://www.sitemapwriter.com/notify.php

change the (Search Engine) box to (Ask.com) and then click (Notify)

you are now going to be crawled by Google, Yahoo, Ask.com, Live and Moreover.com

This may take a few days and is up to their crawler schedule.

This actually works and on all of the above listed engines except Google I am at the top when you search for Honey bear playhomes. I was listed in under 4 days the first time around.

I think you should do it every couple of weeks but no more because if you do then they will think you are smamming them and delete you all together

okay this one is the better one to follow

Ask.com seems not to be so friendly so you must use the following

Please submit using proper syntax - e.g.

Just copy the url below and paste it into wordpad or word and then remove the space between the h and ttp (the site messes it up and shortens the link)

h ttp://submissions.ask.com/ping?sitemap=http://www.YourWebSite.com/sitemap.xml

as in mine it would be:

Just copy the url below and paste it into wordpad or word and then remove the space between the h and ttp (the site messes it up and shortens the link) use mine for an example

h ttp://submissions.ask.com/ping?sitemap=http://www.honeybearplayhomes.synthas...

with yours in this syntax return to

http://www.sitemapwriter.com/notify.php

then put your new Ask.com friendly website URL in the box

change the (Search Engine) box to (Ask.com) and then click (Notify)

you are now going to be crawled by Google, Yahoo, Ask.com, Live and Moreover.com

Just did this, worked 1st time. - Excellent instructions!
Thanks - You've outdone yourself today.
How long do you have to leave the text file at the bottom of your index page ?
Does this affect your google webmaster code which is also pasted at the bottom of the page ?

no mines been there for some time now so I don't think there is any problems that can arise. like once a week or every other week you should resubmit your sitemap and delete the old one and replace with the new

glad it worked for you and my sleepiness didn't affect my articulate self

ha ha ha

yeah I wish their was some way to make all those hidden... Hey Monique how about asking for a hidden file cabinet that files can be stored on the page needed and not deleted. It would make editing pages much easier too.

I may be off for a few days but maybe I helped a few out there

Oh year Redmond ha ha ha... Yeah but I build playhomes and not computers sad to say. Maybe some day I will be making the big bucks... After the recession is over I guess

So here is a possible google sitemap fix I tried it and got no error sooo in a few hours or when I wake I will find out if it worked.

I created a sitemap file with the info I added in the posts above and placed the sitemap file on the index page on the very bottom of my site then clicked on the file to get the file to open up in the browser with the address of:

( h ttp://honeybearplayhomes.synthasite.com/resources/sitemap.xml )

[I added a space between the “h” and the first “t” because if I didn’t the getsatisfaction.com site would mess up the link and you would not be able to see it.

So what I then did was to go to google webmasters tools and after my site URL there was an empty box for you to place the location of the sitemap so I place the following in the box and ( resources/sitemap.xml ) I submitted it. Got no errors like I usually did hundreds of times in the past and even now it says it’s okay. I am really optimistic about this. Boomer give it a try... Couldn’t hurt. *** don’t forget to save the created sitemap on the index page *** Then submit the thing.

To: mredsayshi. Accidentally put my comment to you above, before your first post, where it says "To Monique." Yours follows after. I was mostly just thanking you.

Monique I haven't got any errors through google webmaster tools - sitemaps since I did the last post. Ordinarily it errors out right away or soon. Google scanned it over 2 hours ago and the results in the tools say it's okay and read all 10 pages of my site... Had anyone else gotten it to work before or been able to submit their site themself?
