Hello Jack,

The panels are in effect designed on the fly and built from the inside out so a predefined width and height is not part of the setting parameters.

If you have a critical size then I think you are going to have to set the padding after you have designed the panel and inserted your content. The padding will allow you then to define the external parameters of height and width.

Other users may have come across this need before so there may be a workaround of interest by these people?

So does it mean that it depends on the size of a widget I insert?

That's true for such a widget, varies for text and images.
The custom panel can be increased by increasing the internal padding.

Alternatively you can create your own panel in a div style, place a text widget on a page, click on HTML in the toolbar and insert the code below without the <!-- -->

<!--
<div style="background-color: #f6f6f6; box-shadow: 5px 5px 7px 0px #341002; -webkit-box-shadow: 5px 5px 7px 0px #341002; -moz-box-shadow: 5px 5px 7px 0px #341002; border-radius: 10px; -moz-border-radius: 10px; -webkit-border-radius: 10px; padding: 2px; width: 200px; height: 100px;">Your text here</div>
-->

Just change/delete whatever you don't need
