Hi Chene,

The disappointment is growing on this issue and I don't think that it is just reactionary responses. People are disappointed and angry. It is a Yola public relations hellhole.

I find it amazing that such an arrogant and unpopular decision such as this is allowed to continue. It is the epitome of arrogance without consultation. A deplorable situation. Boycott comes to mind.

I hope that this is all one big mistake and simply poor communication which is bad in itself. I wonder if Yola are having real financial problems and trying to claw their way out on the backs of their customers?

Hi Gop,

Disappointment is a serious understatement here, i am absolutely livid.

First off in 2010 i designed 3 websites for "free" and published to the web for free. Then of course 2 months ago i was informed that this service is not for free......no sorry....in their words building it is for free, but you need to pay to have it published..........and now we have to pay for their domains??????????/

Arrrggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh

PS Gop, please see this ridiculous reply from support, this is a laugh, do we look like a bunch of idiots??? Check the second sentence.....Due to.....blah blah

Hello Chene

I understand your concern and confusion and would like to explain these changes. Due to overwhelming customer feedback, as well as our own rising costs, we have made the decision to introduce paid hosting for custom domains, as well as lower the cost of our custom domains to the cheapest possible price.

As part of this change, we are giving our hosting package as a free gift for the first year to users who already have custom domains and subscriptions with us, so that they are in no way inconvenienced by the need to suddenly purchase a hosting package. This means that you do not have purchase your hosting package until next year. At renewal you will have the choice of reverting to a free package or renewing your hosting with us. As a valued customer, you are also able to take advantage of lower prices for your first renewal. For more information about this, take a look at our Package Changes FAQ.

Does this mean that I have to buy Yola silver, plus pay to have a site hosted on a .org, .com, .co.uk or whatever domain? If so, Yola can go shove its head up its own arse. If not, then cool.

Hello Will,

When your domain or package comes up for renewal you will get to renew your domain at the new (much lower) price.

You will now also have to choose a hosting package (Either Silver or Bronze ) to go with your domain and site.

Please note: You do not have to pay anything until your domain or package comes up for renewal.

We have tried our very best to try and keep these as competitive as possible without giving too much away for free.

I hope this helps. If you need any further assistance, please let us know.

Hi Chene

I am sorry to see you are so upset about these changes and I understand that it is probably very confusing. I am going to try explain a little more and hopefully this will help make things a bit clearer.

Our customers can still gladly build and publish free websites, using a free Yola subdomain. Before, if you wanted to publish your site to a custom domain, you would have needed to have bought the domain separately, or bought our Silver package. In the old schema, the cost of hosting the domain was included in the initial purchase price (approximately $34.94, depending on which TLD you required). We have reworked this a bit a created a hosting package whilst reducing the prices of our domains (approximately $11.95 now). If a customer had bought a domain at the old prices, they would have been automatically converted to our new hosting package and will pay the same price as they did for just the domain, on their renewal. In effect this is a nice win for them, as migrated customers now get more features than what they initially did with just a custom domain (footer removal, additional sites and storage quotas).

The real magic with our new domain prices, is that as long as you have a hosting package (like your Silver subscription), you can buy as many additional domains at our new low price, as you like. As I am sure you can see, this works out to be a lot more fair as most of our customers want more than one domain, specifically for SEO purposes.

I am interested to hear a little more about the issue you are experiencing. From what I can see on your account, you bought Yola Silver on the 22nd of November. Your account has been automatically converted to the new Yola Silver package and the domain you redeemed initially, is still yours to keep and use. Should you choose to renew at the end of the term, your renewal will only cost $99.95 - including the cost of renewing your domain.

I hope I have managed to explain our changes a little better now and I trust that you will help me understand what issues you have been experiencing so that we can assist you in getting them resolved.

If I let silver expire, I still have to pay half of Silver's value, for a fraction of the features?

Hi Will

I'm not too sure what you are referring to here? If you let your Silver package expire you may purchase Bronze if you mainly want the hosting feature and are not too concerned about the premium features available with your Silver package.

Well, I use Yola to host my website design company that I'm setting up. I got silver because of a communication issue with Yola where thhey took a while to respond, and so gave me silver for free. Basically, the only features I want from silver is the ability to host my website to its domain, hitechwebdesign.org and the Yola branding removal. I am 14 and get 30 pounds pocket money each month. As I'm sure you can imagine, to me, paying 50 dollars is like someone on 30,000 per year paying 6,000 pounds, just for the privilege of hosting to a domain.

To me, this seems like a sneaky extra and is one huge step back for Yola. To deliver competitive prices for my customers, I only make 20 pounds per site. I will need to sell at least 5 sites just so I can host my site to a professional domain. I am seriously considering leaving Yola and going elsewhere. Whilst I understand that Yola is facing tough financial situations, I don't believe that it should enforce such a large charge for such a small thing as domain hosting. Surely this is Yola USP going down the proverbial crapper?

I used to recommend Yola to people looking to set up websites, but now I feel that I would be betraying them to recommend them to you. I have previously accepted price hikes as they have been inline with cost rises, but unless all your employees are demanding twice the pay they are currently getting, then I see no reason for this.

I hope this answers your question, and puts your mind at ease about these changes. We have made an effort to ensure that you receive maximum benefit from this change, both from a hosting and domain pricing point of view.

Hi Will
I can only laugh at these responses from Yola. In their initial response to my comment they said due to customer feedback (indicating people want it to change), then why o why are none of the people on this thread happy......

Dont we get 25 sites for free with the silver package?????

They are confused, and continiously refer us to the website to check their FAQ.

Good Luck with your endevours, I will probably get more help and advise from a car salesman.....

Hi Gop

If you purchase annual Bronze at the same time as a domain, you will pay $49.95 for both the package and the domain as we give you a bundle discount (you may also purchase as many additional domains as you'd like at $11.95). If you simply bought Bronze on it's own, you will pay $49.95 and the domains remain $11.95.

Hope this helps.

Thank you Jennifer.

I think a table would be the best way of presenting these costs. Language like this is just too complex and there are too many ambiguities.

I don't get the new pricing plans at all, does that mean now that 3 of my free sites become unpublished? Also does it mean now that I can't buy a domain from an outside provider and use it for my Yola Free Website?? Yola users have had know warning about this changes at all!

Hi Gop,

There are two different ways you can purchase Yola Bronze, so here's a breakdown of how you can do so. I am going to use Yola Bronze as an example in this case, not Yola Silver.

When you purchase a domain from Yola, you will be prompted to upgrade to Yola Bronze or Yola Silver. In this example, you're purchasing Yola Bronze.

Purchasing a .com domain and Yola Bronze at the same time comes to $49.95 annually because we are actually discounting the cost of Yola Bronze to $38.

If you are an existing Yola Bronze subscriber, you benefit even more because the renewal price for Yola Bronze is $23 for the first renewal. Add to that the $11.95 for a .com domain and you end up only paying $34.95 - and we throw in one year's free domain privacy.

As part of the Yola Bronze annual purchase, whether you are a new subscriber or an existing one, you also get free domain privacy for a year (valued at $9.95) and, it also includes two months' free subscription when compared to the cost of purchasing Yola Bronze on a monthly basis for $4.95.

Purchasing another type of domain (such as .net) will cost $14.95, an additional amount of $3, which means your Yola Bronze purchase comes to $52.95 ($38 for Yola Bronze and $14.95 for the domain) for the year. This also includes free domain privacy and two months' free subscription.

Sanja's response covers a situation where you purchase Yola Bronze outright (via www.yola.com/packages). This might be an option if you are not yet sure of the domain you would like, or, if you do not wish to buy a domain but want to take advantage of the domain pointing which is now part of the Yola Bronze package.

In this example, you do pay $49.95 for annual Yola Bronze and, should you wish to purchase a domain at a later stage, it is an additional cost. Along with our package changes, our domain prices were lowered substantially, and you can take a look at the new prices here: http://www.yola.com/tutorials/article.... You will see, for example, that a .com domain that previously cost $34.95 is now $11.95.

So, yes, the figures provided by Sanja are correct and I apologize for any misunderstanding. We are confident that our discounted Yola Bronze upgrade is great value for money as it also includes domain pointing which is a much-used feature that was previously only available for Yola Silver subscribers.

I hope this clarifies our packages and explains why we feel they are great value.

Justine has alerted me to this thread. As your question deals with HTML issues, you need to allow the HTML Team 48 hours to respond. I see that your ticket was brought to my attention yesterday and I have responded within that timeframe. I must ask you to be patient as I not only attend to HTML issues but also to all other inquiries that come in. Please do not continue posting on this thread or create a new thread as I am dealing with this via email. This only creates extra work and confusion. Thanks for your understanding.

Now I understand the Packages Change Questions, but I still have question.
Seen now I understand that if I'm Yola Free, I can't publish my site for free, need to be one of the package. So if I'm the old member, will I still be able to publish my site for free? ( Yola Free ) Or all my sites that I published, will be removed?

And for my small guess, Yola made changes with these packages because you all would like to stop all the free users create account on Yola Free and keep publishing free sites. Or stop Yola users to create multiple accounts and publish free sites.
And now it really not cheap. I know that your prices not same. But it separated!! After separating, all users did not know that need to pay another, they did not know that the prices are still currently same.

i was very depressed when i was done making my website that you were going to charge me $5 a month to post it on the web. i think its not cool that you would say that it is free and then when we finish making are website we have to pay, to me you guys need to live up to your word and a guarantee you guys will be more liked. I hope when someone finishes their website and sees the price they will not be as sad as i was. overall, live up to your word and i guarantee me and some other people won't have to be sad and/or mad.

At november I send an email at support@yola.com...to ask if I renew my yola silver account, have to renew and my domain....(the price then was 49.95$)
Here is what they ansewered to me...

Hi George,

Thank you for contacting the Yola Support Team.

Thank you for considering renewing of your Yola Silver subscription. When you renew your subscription you will get a credit for a custom domain,
and you can use this credit to renew your current domain or to get a new one.

Note: the duration of the credit is the same as the subscription, so you have a full year to choose when to renew your domain.
In addition, the credit is only valid for domains bought through Yola and it cannot be applied to externally pointed domains

I hope this answers your question. If not, please let me know and I'll be happy to assist you further.

Kind regards,
Linsey
Customer Service Consultant

And now they charged me 88$ for yola silver instead 49.95$ PLUS 11.95$ for the domain.....

Hello Sam,

If you choose to purchase a domain (.com) and Yola Bronze hosting package at the same time, then the total you would pay is $49.95.

Yola, ladies and gentlemen, Yola has a number of different vice presidents each earning over a lot a year. Now, I have spent the last several months analyzing what all these guys do, and I still can't figure it out. One thing I do know is that IT company lost lots of dollars this year, and I'll bet that half of that was spent in all the paperwork going back and forth between all these vice presidents. The new law of evolution in corporate America and South Africa seems to be survival of the unfittest. Well, in my book you either do it right or you get eliminated. ......

I am not a destroyer of web-masters. I am a liberator of them! The point is, ladies and gentleman, that greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right, greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed, in all of its forms; greed for life, for money, for love, for flashy fast cars, knowledge has marked the upward surge of CEO's. And greed, you mark my words, will not only save Yola, but those other malfunctioning corporations called the USA and SA. Thank you very much.

A paraphrase based on the speech of Gordon Gecko.

I have to add to the general dismay around the new pricing structure.

First of all, the email that was sent out to announce the changes was *terrible* to say the least. It was very confusing and did very little to explain what the impact would be on existing customers, and did even less to assure them that it wouldn't impact their current set-up in any way.

I've been with Yola for a number of years, and previously any big changes have been handled very well. I don't know what has changed with Yola internally but someone there is making some pretty crazy decisions, or the people who had to explain them are not doing as good a job as they have in the past.

My account has been converted to Yola Bronze and I'm now expected to pay money for something I've had for free since day one. Yes, I bought hosting for one of my 5 free sites, but I now it seems like I either have to pay for Bronze or loose some of my sites since the free option doesn't allow as many as I currently have. I can't even see anywhere to check for myself what I have paid and when.

Why can't this be rolled out in the same way as previous changes? Existing customers can keep things the way they are and choose to upgrade when they want to. I still have access to premium templates that I bought back when that was possible on a free account - why not do something similar with these changes?!

Hi Sarah,

Thank you for your feedback.

We understand that there was some confusion regarding the wording of the email, and we are happy to clarify any points that were unclear. There was also a link to an FAQ, which addressed some of the important questions around these changes: http://www.yola.com/faqs/package-chan....

If you previously purchased a domain through Yola, you were a Yola Bronze account holder, and still are. Nothing in your account has been affected and you do not need to unpublish or delete any of your sites. However, should you wish to cancel your subscription and revert to a Yola Free account, you will be required to unpublish some sites. This tutorial has more information about cancelling a subscription: http://www.yola.com/tutorials/article....

The only change to your Yola account, is that hosting is now an additional charge. However, we are giving our hosting package as a free gift for the first year to users who already have domains with us, so that they are in no way inconvenienced by the need to suddenly purchase a hosting package for their domain. At renewal you will have the choice of reverting to a free package or renewing your hosting with us. In this way, we have made an effort to ensure that our existing customers receive maximum benefit from this change, both from a hosting and domain pricing point of view and that it is a smooth and easy transition.

As a valued Yola customer, the Yola Bronze hosting package is available for a discounted rate of $23 for the first renewal. As our domain prices have also been substantially reduced, depending on the type of domain you own, renewing your domain and Yola Bronze could end up cheaper than when you initially purchased the domain. When you renew Yola Bronze and your domain, you also receive one free year of domain privacy.

Regarding your payment history, please mail us at support@yola.com, and we'll be happy to provide you with feedback!

I hope this helps!

Hiya Gop,

Longtime no chat.....

It seems we are going in circles with this company.

Who are the directors of the company? Do they work out of a house in Nigeria?

If I read one more patronizing comment from the Yola Crew, I might just throw up in my handbag.

I have so many questions still unanswered. Also everytime I phone the telephone number it just rings and rings and rings......

Keep up the good work.
