I would like to cancel my domain name as a friend has offered to create me a more developed website for free, so I no longer need this site. Do I have to cancel my domain name and pay for it through another domain site?

Or you could keep your domain name, unpublish the site and change some details so you could use the domain name on your new site.

I haven't even created my website yet. But I heard that there might be some tie-ins if registering via Get British Business online?? I would like to keep my domain name.

So you have registered the domain through Yola already but didn't build any site just yet ?

If you have paid for the domain, i am sure there would be no tie-ins. However, is this is the GBBO 'free up to 12 months option, i doubt you have much flexibility. Just from my point of view.

Yes it is the GBBO free up to 12 months. I was hoping to deregister though and pay for my domain name - thus gaining more flexibility

If you have already signed up, the best thing to do is to contact GBBO. Alternatively, wait for your friend to complete the site for you (as stated in your initial message), and then purchase a domain name. Is this new site being built on Yola too ?

I would kind of like to keep my domain name, though happy to pay for it. No new site is not being built by yola. Thanks for your help! :-) I will get in contact with GBBO

Once a domain is registered it is not possible to cancel it, this is the nature of domains and something that is beyond our control.

However even though you registered a free domain via GBBO, it will remain registered to you until its expiry and where and how you choose to use it is up to you! You can choose to host your domain with Yola but point it to an externally built website or you can transfer it to a new host.

To simply point your domain away from Yola please head here.
