Designated Keywords - how important today?

The new editor makes it super easy to add keywords to our sites... But just how important are designated keywords these days? I saw a film of a conference at Google in which the Google staff indicated they were no longer really relevant -- at least to them. What is collective wisdom at Synthasite on this topic?

Hi Bengo,

Apparently you're right, you only need a few good tags... Here's a link to an article (it has been posted elsewhere in this forum).

If anyone else has suggestions, feel free to post them!

I have been driving myself kooky trying to learn the backside of my website and lenses at Squidoo. Thanks for posing this Bengo and for the article link Marije. This is my newest cool tool, just in case no one else has tried it... Insights for Search.

A very good comment. We make it easy for people to add keywords because many website builders still pay a great deal of attention to this. Google, on the other hand, does not.

The line we push all the time is that the most important things you can do for your site are:
1) Update your content frequently
2) Make sure you have quality inbound links from related websites.

Bengo: I believe this has been the secret of your success in the high Page Rank of your sites.
