Designed by who? Slight Template problem...

Hi, I am currently using a template in which I can remove the background image, leaving me with a clean white template...
However at the very bottom, there is still a designed by name, which would be incorrect since the page is now designed by me, is there anyway you wonderful people at Yola can remove this for me?

Yes I have tried using some of the other templates that give you a clean white background, but they leave too much blank space at the top of my webpage. I noticed in another post, a negative top margin was used to make the starting widget appear higher, I wouldn't totally mind switching back to another template if I can have Yola do this for me... But, I like the position of my html widget in the current template (my content isn't exactly centered), if I can keep the current template minus the designed by name I'd be thrilled.

All in all, to leave their name on my design wouldn't be right.

Also (I may not need it now, but I may eventually need it) Yola could you please consider introducing a clean white template for us Yola users to use... Thanks

While we can offer you the option to remove the Yola link for a fee, the credit to the designer cannot be removed due to our licensing agreement with them.

Yola's policy is to be absolutely clear and up front with customers about what they are purchasing, and we give you exactly what we promise. When you elect to remove the footer from your page, we display a screen with a graphic illustrating exactly what will be removed, along with a clearly visible message which states: "Please note: The Designer Credit in the footer cannot be removed." The link in the message opens a tooltip explaining exactly what the designer credit is. It states: "About the Designer Credit: The Designer Credit is text that is locked into all basic Yola pages. Per our agreement with the designer, it acknowledges their contribution to the page. (ex: Designed by free CSS templates)"

Below is a screenshot of the dialog box we display at the time of purchase for your reference.

Your option would be to use one of the blank styles and then move the content as you have described.

I'm sorry we can't be of more help with your request.

Where do I start... (& this is for you not me because you have said I can get yola to move the content like I mentioned)...

- Who would have ever known that unless they purchased the Yola link removal...
- The page is blank, so what exactly is the designer getting credit for again, my new background?
- I don't use the built in linking system, so no they can't get credit for that either... All my pages are left outside the navigation menu... No navigation bar.
- What if I make a crappy new design and it has this designer's name attached to it? Bad for their business, no? Yes. Also it's misrepresentation...

This is all sad, but true...

Anyway, ok, maybe I will try the blank style thing at a later date, or just download the site as a zip file.

You might not like or agree with this aspect of the Free CSS templates terms of service, but neither you or Yola have any choice in the matter if you elect to use one of their templates - regardless of how you modify it. As already pointed out, you do have the option to make use of a different template if you so choose.

Look, I'm just trying to help you all... I could care less about the holes in your services, and you in particular might need to not respond to any or my questions, because your responses make you sound like you have an attitude problem. You're done speaking to me.

Oh yeah this is what I've been meaning to ask for a while now, If I download the site as a zip, how do I change the template when I upload to a new server? Say for instance I want to have a blank background, but I've done all my work in Yola which doesn't have the blank background option... How do I remove the pre-designed template?
Or, this might be better, how can I use one of the other "blank" templates and move the content myself like I mentioned, do I just edit the template file? How do you change the margins?... (Yola would have done it here I suppose, that's why I am asking)

Thanks

These options are not currently available in Yola. If you decide to download your site as a zipped file and edit it, you can do so, but we can't provide you with any support for this. How you edit your site after you download it is entirely up to you.

Dear Yola user,
have you created and uploaded a .css file to your site ? , and have coded to work your menu style , or links set in footer ?

Their work isn't just a background, so think a while and leave it, since they served you. Also , their domain is a .org one which do not change your google pagerank any bit.(please await untill I complete my book in seo)

however , there are some ways to remove their footer link.

Try searching for a credit-less template in premium templates set(you may have yola credits to try)

This does not answer the question... I asked how to change the margins...

No the problems I am having is that I need a template that starts closer to the top of the page, the "blank ones" offered here at yola start your page about 1 inch down instead of directly at the top of the page...
I found a template that starts the content closer to the top and that has the page setup I need, but Yola cannot remove the designer's credit as they have stated above.

I can accept that...

However, I have started building my site and other sites in Yola, but I am thinking of moving them... Hence the second question I asked above...
I have recently found another website that hosts your site for free without any ads but you have to edit your own .php files, upload templates/scripts etc. With this server I can go in and manually change background etc. so I just need to know what file to open to change the margins if I was to do this?

I understand that their work isn't just a background, but if I need to switch to a new server and want to keep the work that I've done on Yola, minus the background template and with my own set margins, what file do I edit, how do I edit the page margins?

It will be a .css file attached to that particular style. This file allows you to edit the look and design of your style.

Monique, who didn't know there would be no answer to this question from Yola, a test to see how nice Yola is perhaps?...
Don't worry someone knows and will tell me... Just not Yola.

I'm done, thanks.

I believe I'm the one who suggested, in the other thread, using a negative margin to move your html higher on the page.

There are tons of hosts and sitebuilders out here. I've used many hosts--some free some not. Yola is by far the best I've seen for free with a wide variety of ready made widgets and options. As suggested you could use Yola Pro and have more control over your site with your own css.

You asked a valid question and received a factual response form Yola. It's not what you wanted to hear, but that's how it is sometimes. Your last posts say far more about you than Yola.

Yola is a leader in do it yourself site building, with excellent support through email and this forum. Oh, and don't forget the "free" part.

"Your last posts say far more about you than Yola." LOL

Sitting behind a computer giving "character" to a username. I could change my username tomorrow create another post and be right back on here having you agree with everything I say... It's the internet dear, you don't give character to usernames, you'll lose each time.
So ultimately your reason for chiming in is to point out how grand you think Yola is, anything else dear???

You know as well as I know, individuals on here became agitated because I pointed out something about Yola they couldn't fix and also upset pride by asking about another server option... Save it.

Yola_User_A: I am quite willing to receive any feedback you have about me personally or about Yola as a company, either positive or negative. However, I am not prepared to tolerate personal insults or rudeness towards other customers who have the right to participate here and be treated with dignity and respect. The above post directed at Margie is completely uncalled for and I strongly encourage you to refrain from any similar posts directed at Yola customers in future.

If you need to upload to your own host, here are advantages , disadvantages and tricks.

You can customize your templates, theme , layout and all over the things , but remember to validate your site using w3 validater.

Yola doesn't limit your bandwidth. This is a very good advantage with Yola. My Site gets nearly 1000 hits per day , and google crawls nearly 3 Mb per day. I can't measure how much from other search engines. Feedburner checks my 9 blogs in every 30 mins for updates. So , choose a host with umlimited bandwidth.

Some hosts restricts your DNS setup, but yola isn't.

If you update a blog , you can't update the blog with other host, you need to download the whole site and upload per every update.

Much much more...

I've tried a lot of hosts , really a lot. But I couldn't get a service beat Yola..

Now this is a valid response!!! Take a note from Ayesh Karunaratne people! Definitely more inclined to listen to this input than that of the employees and the other user here, how about that?!
Get it together folks!

Thanks Ayesh Karunaratne, really do appreciate it! : )

I still think you are an asshole to the wonderful people here but that is beside the point. I don't think you will transfer your sites because I don't think you even know basic coding. You have to ask this forum how to change margin parameters. How are you going to do PHP? Do you even know what SSI are?

rocker394: thanks for the points about the coding knowledge needed to host your own site. I am very happy to have that conversation. However, I would appreciate it if we could steer clear of personal insults and keep this conversation friendly and professional. I have asked Yola_User_A to do the same higher up on this thread and I trust that he will honor my request :)

Yola User ,
thanks for marking my above reply as the answer.
I think now you are fine with yola templates. Remember , there are 2 types of navigation bars. If you choose a up to down and left bar , you can save the space of top margins.
