Can someone tell me the difference between a domain and a subdomain
Would this affect being indexed and the traffic visiting your site?

Hi Rae of hope,

As an example of a domain: mysite.com
as an example of a sub-domain: mysite.{yolasite}.com in this case mysite would be a sub-domain of yolasite.

This won't affect indexing significantly particularly with Yola. This is because Yola have optimised all the mechanisms for this process.

There are some excellent tutorials on getting your SEO ranking higher created by Yola staff Emmy:

http://www.yola.com/tutorials/buildin...

Hope this can give you a start and let us know if there's anything else which may help.

Thanks Peter!

Gypsy: the main advantage with having your own domain is that it is shorter, and easier to remember and spell and makes your site appear more professional. There might be some SEO benefit, but it is possible to also get good SEO results with a subdomain.

Which ever option you select, the most important factors for SEO are always:

1) The quality of content on your site.
2) How many other quality, related sites link to you.
3) How frequently you update your content.

I am glad you took the time to go through the tutorials. They have plenty of great information, but if you forget anything else just remember the above 3 points and you will be well on the way to optimizing your site.
