Displaying my page- a better way?

I would love to know if someone has suggestions as to how I can reorganize my Radio Shows page (www.mcran.com) into something else. I really like the way it looks now, but was wondering if there maybe a better more efficient way of displaying my shows.

I have HTML code behind the table I created so you can see how I designed the table by looking at the details of the page.

Hi there Randy,

I think the layout for your page is actually quite nice. When displaying your shows for listening the table is very useful.

Do your shows have a topic or not really? If they do then maybe rollover text of what the show's topic is or something describing that particular show might be useful for those looking for something... Just a thought.

Thanks Jeremy!!

I really like the way I have it set up. I don't really have show topics because I like to keep my shows spontaneous in the spirit of jazz if you know what I mean.

One thing though. I had to use an external text editor again for my code because the one that comes with Yola does not allow me to do find/replace when I have for example need to change all occurrences of 2008 to 2013. Stuff like this. I don't mind using an external editor but if I need to do a lot of changes and I am away from my computer, I need a text/ code editor that allows me to do this.

Do you know of any online text/code editors that I could use that would allow the same functionality as the text editor I am now using? I use TextWrangler for the Mac.

Hi Randy

Your site looks really great. I am a huge fan of 'clean' sites.

It is a good idea to have an external text editor when doing a lot of coding. Text Wrangler is a good one, but if you want to try something else, I found this handy guide - The 10 Best Free Web Editors for Macintosh - that may be helpful to you.

I like your web page as well and I agree with lorafoster85. I have my website too and here it is http://freeavitomp4converter.com/ it's good for those who don't know how to convert avi to mp4 and it's more colorful so it's definitely not my favorite one though. I like yours better!

I agree with the comments about adding more photographs. However, your site is a great example for people thinking they can't define their own style into Yolas' sitebuilder templates. You should let Yola use it for a reference when others ask for examples. Also, the list of songs or something... I would see about getting small icons or pics to kind of itemize each title for people who don't like to read. Other than pics, its a good looking site. Your first?

Thanks for the comments. Actually I tried a few times to make my site as functional and easy to use. I have to keep in mind that I have both listeners and musicians going to my site so I try to strike a balance between functionality, mindless navigation as well as relevant content. These were my design goals when I started working on my site, so now I just look at ways of refining it and making it even better.

I would love for Yola to use my site as an example. Not sure who to contact about this. My site is about content so I had to find ways of displaying the data that would be compatible on all computers including iphones, ipads, etc.... In other words, Flash free.

Hi Melinda!

You quoted in your last post

"I would see about getting small icons or pics to kind of itemize each title for people who don't like to read. Other than pics,"

Can you clarify what you mean by this. I'm very interested in pursing it. Thanks for the feedback!!

Like anywhere you have words, you add a symbol or icon beside it for a type of added pop beside your text for when someone is scouring across info. Like for my type of business it would be a camera icon in an area, books in the reference area, paint brushes in the photoshop area, ext. along one page. Like headers on a page. I was thinking moreso music & notes within yours. Or pics that are small as an icon but show the bands photo like on an mp3. I went back for another look and if the idea I have isn't feasible then I would only make the months of your list in bold letters. Then it will stand out a bit better for someone whose skimming that page for a certain month. I do not knowif it's even possible because I am new here. Will see if I can find info on it;) *Loaded a pic for an example* The devil is in the details & you will most likely get more into those as you're tweaking your site throughout time. All-in-all it's a good looking site. My fav section is your Bio!! The beginning, the discovery, the future... I read them and really like what you have going on there!!! Let's people know where you came from & where you stand. And even better, where you're going win or lose!! I really liked that!! In business, making a connection for someone will yield you great results:)

Thanks again for the feedback!! I did over the past few weeks change the look of my playlists because I wanted to make them more fun and I also love using colors. I'll see what I can come up with to better improve my site while still leaving it light weight.

I took the advice of some of you regarding pictures so, when you go to my site, click on Radio Shows and then Bennett Archives and In Transition Archives. Let me know what you think. I used HTML code for the pics because I found it easier and more consistent. I plan on updating my other pages as well.

Keep the feedback coming as I am always striving to make my site better and more appealing while maintaining simplicity to the eye.

Hello, Randy!
It looks a little bit better, but if you want to add my images. I think your site will be amazing.
You will find it difficult because you don't know need to add what image. You already added images on your contents, now you need to add icons on your menu.
My advice is you need to add icons beside the name of the page found on your menu.
For example: Jazz News
Then you add the news icon beside the " Jazz News ".

Regards,
Mai
