Domain Forwarding - Multiple Domains for a Yola Site

After a rebranding of our company we purchased a new domain name (www.edibleplatecompany.com) and set-up a free site at Yola. As per the instructions we created an A record for www.edibleplatecompany.com so that it pointed to our Yola site. Everything works OK.

Our origianl domain (www.nvyro.com) is still up and running but is now an outdated site. What we want to do is get www.nvyro.com pointing to the same Yola site as www.edibleplatecompany.com. We followed the recommended steps of creating a Permanent 301 Forwarding for www.nvyro.com to www.edibleplatecompany.com but it doesn't seem to be working. The company who look after the www.nvyro.com domain have told us that the host at www.edibleplatecompany.com has to accept nvyro.com and www.nvyro.com on the HTTTP header, as an alias for www.edibleplatecompany.com.

We contacted the host (netim.eu) who told us the following:

"Currently www.edibleplatecompany.com is pointing to 208.75.208.172. Your website is hosting onto this server. If you want to perform an HTTP 301 forward, you must to do it directly to www.edibleplatecompany.com whatever is the DNS settings or the web server settings. In any case, if a special setting must be done at the webserver, you must do it on 208.75.208.172."

As we all know, 208.75.208.172 is Yola.

What can we do to make this work correctly? We don't mind changing Hosts if that is what is required.

Hi Paul,

You can definitely assign two domains to one site on Yola and make sure that one is the primary or canonical domain. You can do this by accessing the Advanced Domain Settings. Here's how:-

1. Login to your account on Yola.
2. On the My Sites page, scroll to the bottom and check the box next to "Enable Advanced Domain Settings".
3. Scroll back up to the top and click on the link "Advanced Domain Settings".
4. A new page will open. As it sounds like both the domains are already published to sites on Yola, you will be able to reassign a domain from one site to another.
5. Remember to click on "Click to apply changes".
6. To make one domain the primary domain, make sure it's selected under "Primary Domain" (and click on "Click to apply changes" again).

I hope that's clear enough - let us know if you need any further help!

Ehmmm...OK. On point 4 above you state that "it sound slike both the domains are already published to sites on Yola". I'm afraid this isn't true. Currently www.nvyro.com is hosted elsewhere and has no link to Yola.

I have now added the Domain (Add a domain that I already own) but what should I do next?

My apologies - I misunderstood. What you've done is correct, however, you will need to make sure that www.nvyro.com is also pointing to Yola. It won't work if it isn't pointing to us.

If you've already added it as a domain in your Advanced Domain Settings, it should all work once the domain is pointed.

Remember to create two A Records so that the both nyvro.com and www.nyvro.com work (that is linked to this comment on your question: "has to accept nvyro.com and www.nvyro.com on the HTTTP header"). We have more info on that on this link: http://www.yola.com/customer-support/....

Hope that helps!
