From our experience and knowledge we recommend to avoid multiple hyphens in a domain name if possible. It's basically because hyphenated domain names are often considered as spam and seem to be less credible/trustworthy to internet users.
However, big companies like T-Mobile have a hyphenated domain name, http://www.t-mobile.com/, so they would be in trouble if Google or other search engines penalised websites for having a hyphen in their domain name in general.
