Domain name not pointing to Yola

I have set up my new domain with Yola and am attempting to point my previous domain (hosted by Melbourne IT) to Yola. I have set up two A records so that the Hostname (ns1.secure.net and ns2.secure.net) both point to 184.72.229.176 (the IP address advised by Yola). But when I try to add the Melbourne domain to my Yola account, I get the message that "Your domain is not pointed at Yola". I have waited 48 hours for this to take effect (the TTL is actually set to 3600). What have I not done?

Hi grgnye,

One of your A records should be; www.yourdomain.ext and the other labelled yourdomain.ext.

yourdomain.ext would be your own domain name and the extension (.com, .co.uk or whatever). I set up some zone records similarly a few days ago with melbourne IT and this was the solution.

I have followed Gop's advice and created two new A records with Melbourne, and it now shows ".co.uk" pointing to "184.72.22.176" and "Published". Trying to create the second A record (www..co.uk) has failed with Melbourne (it showing a Status of "Failed"), but it has created an A record which just has a hostname of "www" !!. This I do not understand and have raised this with Melbourne.
With a TTL of 3600 I would have expected the first A record to now be live, but I still get the same message from Yola when I try to add the ".co.uk" to my account.
I will see what Melbourne say but would appreciate any further help you can give.

Hi grgnye,

Could you supply us with the domain that you are trying to point to Yola, so that we can investigate further.

Thanks!

The domain, registered with Melbourne IT, that I am trying to point to Yola is "stippollittsbadmintonclub.co.uk". I am trying to point this to "stippollittsbadmintonclub.com" which is registered with Yola. I have checked again just now and when trying to add this to the Yola domain I still get the message "Your domain is not pointed at Yola", although I have set A records up in Melbourne to point to "184.72.229.176".

Hi grgnye,

Thank you for providing us with your domain name! I can confirm that your www A record is not pointing to Yola, which is why you are unable to publish your site.

You need to have two A records (one @ and one www) in order to publish your Yola site.

Once Melbourne IT have resolved your "failed" www A record query, and set this A record for you, you will be able to publish your Yola site.

Please let us know when you have an update so that we can follow up on our side.

Thanks!

Thanks Jackie,

I am still waiting for a response from Melbourne on the "www" problem. I now see that when I go to "http://stippollittsbadmintonclub.co.uk" in a browser (without the www) I get the page that shows "Your domain is pointing to Yola" which is some progress. But I still cannot enter that address in the Yola "Want to keep your domain with another registrar?" box.

Hi,

It's quite possible that simply the www will work, as the domain may be read and carried through internally. Some DNS facility won't accept a 4 component address. Interestingly it was a .co.uk domain that I configured on Saturday or Sunday(?) I recall it taking the www.....co.uk but can't swear to it. The people at Melb IT will help you I'm sure.
