Domain registered with Yola 12 hours ago but no DNS entries

Hi,

Maybe I'm being inpatient but I set up a new domain today, effectiveitservices.co.uk, and the NS records and WHOIS all appear fine but there are no DNS entries for the domain?

It seems strange that there would be no DNS entries at all!

When I go to edit the DNS records I get the attached error below...

Thanks
Greg

Hello Greg,

Thanks for detailing this and posting it here.

I had noticed a few issues yesterday with GBBO sites but had no one post the error notification.

Yola will pick up on this now and work on this .

Hi Gop,

Thanks for getting back to me. I had a closer look at the WHOIS on the Nominet site and noticed that the "Registration status" is "Registration request being processed".

Would that slow down or pause the initial DNS settings?

Also I'm "impatient" rather than "inpatient" lol ;-)

Cheers

I don't know what effect a domain in current registration process would have on DNS manipulation?

I know that the whois list isn't definitive though as records can be lagging with some registrars and they say so. Never a single simple answer with this stuff??

It's definitely a bit odd!

Even more strange is that the NS records on Nominet show as...

pdns1.ultradns.net
pdns2.ultradns.net
pdns3.ultradns.org
pdns4.ultradns.org
pdns5.ultradns.info
pdns6.ultradns.co.uk

If I use https://www.ultratools.com/tools/dnsL... to do a lookup it shows no DNS records on any of the name servers but if I query for the NS records from anything other than UltraDNS no NS records are present!

It's like the NS records haven't propogated and the preset DNS records never got loaded.

I should of mentioned that I tried to set up Google APPS and have added the TXT record that Google provided but that also hasn't appeared in DNS.

Like you said, hopefully Yola will pick this up in the morning. I'm wondering if other people that registered via GBBO are having similar issues?

Cheers
Greg

Thanks Greg,

I see the same results using http://www.mxtoolbox.com.

Were you able to get any verification from Google that the CNAME(s) had gone through? Of course not you couldn't get into the settings ! :(

I added the txt record from Google via the email settings in Yola but as there are no A records or TXT records for the domain Google can't verify the domain is mine.

I've emailed support so we'll see what happens.

Hi Greg,

We have just responded to your email - your A records have been added, and you should be able to go ahead and add your TXT record.

Thanks!

Hi Jackie,

Thanks for the speedy response and for adding the A records.

This is all looking a bit strange.... It took quite a few attempts to add the TXT record via "Set up email for your domain" but eventually it went through. Below is one of the errors I got before it went through.

I had a few errors getting into "Change your DNS settings" but it all seems to be ok at the moment, but rather slow. The error was the one below.

I had a look at the DNS entries and it seems that quite a lot of Google stuff has been added but as yet no TXT record. To check that DNS is working I manually added an A record and that appeared immediately so it felt strange that the TXT record didn't. I attempted to add the TXT record manually but that failed with the error below.

I would appreciate it if you could advise what's going on here, feel free to talk tech as I have a good understanding of DNS.

Many thanks
Greg

Hi,

In order to check that I can add a valid TXT record I've just tried to add...

v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com ~all

However I got the error below!

I'm wondering if the manual creation of the A records has had some impact on the domain?

Could I ask that someone takes an urgent look at my domain and gets back to me? Like I said before please feel free to talk tech!

Thanks
Greg

Hi Greg,

Thanks for this information. I have looked at your DNS settings and from our back-end system it appears that the TXT record hasn't been added yet. Would you be able to paste it here for me so that I can try add it and test on our side?

When adding a TXT record for Google Apps, our system automatically generates the MX records that are needed to use Google Apps. We have automated this for you so that you don't have to go through and add each one yourself. These are the extra records that you are seeing.

The "uh-oh" error message was a technical glitch on our side - when registering a domain it should also add a DNS zone and Yola's A records. When you contacted us your DNS zone had not been created yet, which is why you were receiving this message. I created it for you along with the A records, so this message shouldn't come up again. Apologies that you had to experience this - once the domain has been registered it can take up to 48 hours for the DNS zone to be created, but it is usually immediate.

Cheers,
Jackie

Hi Jackie,

The TXT record for Google APPS is
google-site-verification=4a9wYW-5NX32SvyssahqpogUi8W9HoQ6ql4PVmWSj_c

I'd me more interested to see the SPF record added and then I can add the above TXT record myself, if that's ok?

v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com ~all

At the end of the day I have to fully trust that I have DNS control of my domain hence wanting to add the Google APPS part myself.

Many thanks
Greg

Please go ahead and try add the TXT record for Google Apps and let me know if you experience any problems. It should work correctly.

Hi Greg,

Thanks for providing the TXT record. Are you adding this type of TXT record as a SPF record? Currently our CNAME/TXT record field only allows for TXT records used to verify your domain with Google Apps. They usually look like this: google-site-verification=3gx2xVdwXE6QxTqQWNVfv7zOpWvEjGhMPeLbACv16yQ

Other TXT records, used as SPF/DKIM records, can be added by the Yola Support team, and I have done this for you. Apologies for any confusion this field may have caused.

If you have tried to add a TXT record used to verify your domain with Google Apps (as per the above), and it hasn't been added to your DNS, please let me know so that I can look into it.

Thanks!

Hi Jackie,

The TXT for Google APPS was done via the Email settings and the TXT for the SPF via DNS.

Could you have a look into the TXT record for Google APPS pls?

Got to pop out now.

Cheers

Hi Greg,

When adding the TXT record for Google Apps I was able to replicate the error that you were receiving. I have notified our engineers as this should not be happening.

In the meantime I have added the TXT record for you. If you require any further assistance before this is resolved please let me know and I will be happy to help.

I will let you know as soon as we have an update.

Thanks,
Jackie

Hi Jackie,

Thanks for sorting all this out for me and for the speedy responses, I'm very impressed with the support.

I would appreciate it if you could email me when the engineers have resolved the back end issues as I have a friend who will soon start his own business and would like to help them setup Yola with a new GBBO domain and Google APPS. It would be great to see how fast and smooth the setup is!

I'll be posting a new question regarding the type of TXT records we can / can't add!

Once again, many thanks for a great service even though there were isssues with the automated side of things.

All the best,
Greg

Hi Roberto

Jackie is currently unavailable, but I'm able to help.

I was able to add the TXT record to your domain. Please allow up to 48 hours for the change to take effect.

Just out of interest, what was happening when you tried to add the TXT records to the domain? Did you get an error message?

Thanks
Nazlie

Thank you Nazlie,

I get an error message informing that the TXT is invalid. It seems the system does not accept the "=" sign.

Hi Roberto

Thanks for the feedback. We'll take a look at why that is happening.
