White space as it's called or empty space on a website with another color background created by adjusting the distance between elements is an important aspect of building a clean and eye friendly website.

Simply put, white space cleans up the mess on your website. We’ve all come across the websites that have every square inch crammed with text or graphics. It’s overwhelming and confusing. It’s like walking into a home that’s filled from wall to wall with thousands of little trinkets. It’s just too much. A little bit of properly placed white space makes everything seem tidy and in order. In turn, this makes your visitors feel more welcome when they land on your website.

White space reduces eye strain, improves eye flow and adds a sense of class to your website.

So, step back and look at your site again after reading this and for those widgets close enough to not have a gap in between add 20+px to the margin settings. Look at it again after you've added the space and decide for yourself if you think that it looks better. It may take you a few adjustments but if you add just the right amount it can really help.

White space is your friend...

Happy site building
