I would like to downgrade from Silver to Free. How do I go about it and what am I going to lose in the process? Would Bronze be a better option?

Hello Genene,

I guess the biggest potential downfall from moving from a hosting plan to the free plan would be the loss of any sites published to custom domains eg: www.mysite.com. Custom sites do have a greater attraction to viewers and also to the presumed legitimacy of the site itself. If this is something that would affect you then Bronze is an option for you as this hosting plan will retain your custom domain published sites plus any free yolasite sub-domain sites to a maximum of 5 sites.

Lesser consideration may be the re-appearance of the Yola badge at the bottom of your websites when you drop out of Silver.

CSS over-rides , Facebook and Mobile Publishing aren't offered for plans less than Silver.

Yola Mail or other domain mail isn't available for Yola Free hosting

There are other features of Silver that are offered (and the Gold plan) but not with lower hosting plans.

Down grading is an easy task. If you decide to go for the free plan then simply don't renew your plan at expiry and if you have custom domains and don't wish to use these ever again then allow those to expire also. Your Yola account will stay alive.

Downgrading to Bronze by allowing your Silver hosting plan to expire and then renew again with Bronze, your site files will be retained and you may need to republish these again. Be aware and cautious of the separate custom domain registration as this is a separate payment and if you wish to retain your domains then it's best not to allow these to expire.

Hi Justine,
Thank you for your reply, but just one question. I do not make use of Yola for hosting. I did not when I first started on the FREE version and I still don't on the SILVER option. Because we are in South Africa, most of the so-called 'freebies' from Yola does not apply to us. Are you telling me that if I decide to downgrade to FREE, my existing site address will have to change????

Hello Genene

If you'd like to use a custom domain name, such as "mydomain.co.za" with Yola, you will need to add one of our hosting packages, Yola Bronze, Yola Silver, or Yola Gold. Without a hosting package you won't be able to use any custom domain name with Yola, no matter if you bought it from us or elsewhere. If you have Yola Free, you can only publish your website to a free Yolasite subdomain, like "mysite.yolsite.com".

If you want to downgrade from Yola Silver, but keep your website published to your custom domain, I'd recommend to switch to Yola Bronze. If you want to do this, please reply to Justine's e-mail, and she will be able to assist you further with this. Thanks.
