I just posted a website. www.costarvideospecs.com through yola. it has .pdf files on front page for download. When I click on link half the file starts to download then it stops? File never appears. If I go into maintenance and check a file there it appears just fine.

Hello Mark,

I can see your issue as you described and is certainly more noticeable with the larger files.

For me there were a couple of issues that probably you are familiar with. The first is the invisible download. Simply one aspect of my page indicating the request was pending. Coincidentally I have another indicator which shows the active download and this was in effect for most of the time except for one of your large files.

So I agree there has been one time, for me, when I could see a complete stall of the download and this was a protracted delay. it caused me to abort the download.

The other aspect I mentioned could cause people to think that there's a problem and in fact not so. I wonder if you can insert one of those circular download indicators to visually display the the progress of the download?

To determine if a download has indeed stalled is quite important as this may frustrate some users. I presume but don't know if an indicator is available for this purpose. I can look for you.

Why is it stalling? I don't know. it could be the file servers, your(our) ISP. I think that advice from Yola is needed on this point. The stalling I'm expereincing is not related at all to your ISP so it suggests that it is possibly the Yola servers or the file itself (?) I have just re-red your statement that you have checked the files so I guess you can rule this cause out :)

I hope that this can be solved for you. I'm happy to help from a remote users perspective.

Hello,

I have visited your site and tried downloading a small file and a larger file, both worked for me. The larger file took a bit longer to download, possibly like 25 seconds; but it was successful.

Are you possible using Internet Explorer as your browser?

Unfortunately this is a known problem with clicking-on and downloading some PDFs in Internet Explorer that is beyond our control. The alternative is to add some text next to the file saying something like "If you are unable to open this PDF, right-click on the link and choose Save to download and open this file from your computer".

Can you try downloading Firefox and trying with that browser, that is what I am using. Here is a link with more information on how to download this: Download Firefox.

Let us know how this goes for you.

Hello

I have a similar problem...

Everything was fine until some weeks ago, when people started to complain that some files they tried to download just stopped in the middle of the download. The download seems successful but they only get half of the file (e.g for a 5 mb file, they get a 2 or 3 mb file) that of course they cant open...
It is happening with all the files types, ppt, pdf, doc...

Sometimes after several tries it finally works, but most of the times, specially with the largest files, it keeps stopping...

Whats the problem? As I have many visitors I assume they are mainly using either IE or Firefox

Thank you

Hello Joe

Would you mind sharing your site URL where you have the downloadable content? I'd like to try this to see how it behaves. Thanks.
