Duplicate Tags and Descriptions

I have a question regarding duplicate meta descriptions and title tags. The question is have you folks a Yola figured out a way around them yet? I know this issue has been addressed before. As a result of Google's new algorithms such as Penguin, the issue is seemingly becoming more critical. Some websites have been hit, and many webmasters are trying to get things super clean. One of my sites in Yola is sitting with over 700 duplicate meta descriptions and over 500 duplicate title tags. I would sure like to clean these up. If anybody has suggestions, please advise.

Hi davidjohnhood,

We did recently post an article with some suggestions on how to improve your website in order to make Google Penguin love you. I assume what you have in mind is an automated clean up tool, is that correct?

We are working on some features that could make SEO easier and more automated for the future, but in the meantime, I'm going to ask our SEO team to review your inquiry and see if they have any other advice to add for the present.

If you have a Yola blog that is what is causing this and is the one sore subject I have with Yola for not doing something to fix it.

Hey David

I'm a Yola engineer working in the Sitebuilder. I'm not super-familiar with Google's new best practices, but I think I understand what they're asking for in this case.

When they refer to 'duplicate meta descriptions' I think they mean that multiple pages of your site have the same meta description value. This can be remedied quite simply by editing the description values through the page properties dialog.

You can open this dialog by clicking on Page > Page Properties in the top left of the Sitebuilder. You'll need a unique value per page, so just navigate from page to page, make the edit on each page, then publish, and you should be good to go.

Try and make sure that the description you use on each page is reasonably related to the content on the page with maybe a few matching words and phrases - Google loves that :)

I agree. that this is really frustrating. Google webmaster is showing 13 duplicate titles in only the blog section. Google has been very clear that they will penalize sites for duplicate content. Is there some timing on when this will be fixed?
