If I purchase a domain through yola and continually renew it for a few years but then either forget to renew it or elect not to, will the site just expire and cease to exist or will it by default revert back to it's 'free' idenitity? (the "sitename.yolasite.com" domain) Thank you. And I commend you guys for your prompt assistance to everyone's questions as well as your user-friendly web-building formats, I've had quite the enjoyable experience in light of this. God Bless!

Hi Justin,

Thanks for the positive feedback - we're glad to hear you're having a good time!

If you purchase a domain and then let it expire, you can still use your Yola site and you will not lose any content. To keep the site online, all you would need to do, is unpublish your site from your domain and then republish it to a free Yola subdomain.

You do this by clicking on down-arrow on the the green "Publish to the web" button, and selecting "Publishing Settings". You then select "Unpublish my site". Once it's unpublished, you can just click on "Publish to the web", and you'll be promoted to either buy a new domain or publish to a free subdomain.

Hope this helps!

Hello Mickey,

We have changed things a bit since this post was initially created. Are you trying to unpublish your site? If so, here's how:

1. Go to Site > Site Settings > Publishing > Un-publish Site.
2. A confirmation dialog box will open up.
3. Type "Unpublish" into the text box provided and click "Unpublish site".
4. Your site is now unpublished.

Please let me know if this does not answer your question.

my domain has expired so i was trying to renew it and i couldnt and when i was trying to sort it out i found the comment at the top of the page by justine and i couldnt do it because i didnt know how to upublish my site.

now that you've showed me how to it is still not working; when i click publish it doesnt give me the option to get a new domain; and when i try to get youngmick3y.com as my domain it is saying that it is taken which probably means that it is still owned by me.

thanks for helping Sanja but im still not sure what to do next

Hi Mickey

I have checked the WHOIS information for the domain, youngmick3y.com. I see that it is still in the process of being released because you had not renewed it. This process usually takes a few weeks and sometimes even months. What I can suggest, is that you try to buy your domain again in another week or two.

Hopefully it will be available to purchase by then. Unfortunately, we cannot give you an accurate estimation of when it will be released. You will just need to keep trying to buy it.

Good luck!
