Hi Fernando,

Thanks for your message. When you add your website link to Facebook, Facebook will pull any images you have added to that link (ie: your index page) allowing you to choose which image you would like to have attached to your link on Facebook. When looking at your site, I am not seeing that you have added any images to your site. I do suggest that you add one, or a few to your site if you would like to have the opportunity to select on for Facebook.

Even after I add pictures, I doesn't work. I had done it before but I removed them.

I put a picture back on my home page so that you can take a look. It's still doesn't work. Also, how can I add a description to the page that will show up when I share it on facebook?

Thanks!

 Hi Fernando

As Brianna said, usually Facebook will pull the images from you home page.  However, sometimes Facebook caches information and does not show your site updates.  This may be happening on your site.  A workaround to get your images to show up, is to change your website URL to http://musicology.ca/index.php?page=new.  It should then pull the new images through.

I hope this works for you. If not, please let us know.

Thank you
Nazlie

Hello,

Thanks for the prompt responses! The 'http://musicology.ca/index.php?page=new' trick works, however, the issue now is that by default it choses a blank picture and as second choice there is the image I want.

Reading about this problem in the following article, it states that:

"First, you can place a line of code in the header of your Website that will force Facebook to use the same image for all of the pages on your site. Here is the line of code I use to ensure that my logo is used as the thumbnail image when a page from Social Media Power is “liked” or shared on Facebook:

"

Where in my yola management page can I add that piece of code to ensure that Facebook chooses that one as a display when anyone shares it?

Thanks!

Hello Fernando,

Unfortunately you don't have access to the head section of your site.

What might work is to add the head section of code in an HTML Widget

Here are steps to using the HTML Widget:

1. Drag-and-drop an HTML Widget from the Sidebar on the right onto your page (the icon for this is a blue sphere).
2. An HTML editor will open up that will allow you to write or paste your code (use right-click > paste or ctrl-V to paste).
3. When you are done, click "Save" and you will see the way that the HTML displays on your page

I hope this helps.

Hi Fernando Valdés,

There may be a way around this. If you log into your sitebuilder, go to Site -> Site Properties -> Site Tracking Code -> click Edit and paste the string of HTML into the Header Code section. This will effectively add the code to the header of your page, but it will also add it to the header of every page.

Thanks Francois! I shall try this once I'm able to log in... http://i.imgur.com/n7sKe.png

I've tried many times, trust me.

EDIT: Do you have any idea of why I can't log in? I am still not able to do so.
EDIT2: Finally got in. I am going to try it right now.

OK, so I added the following code to the header part of the code in Site Tracking code, and facebook still can't find the image: http://i.imgur.com/UYafJ.png

<link rel=”image_src” href="http://www.musicology.ca/resources/aspeaker100Purple.png" />

Is the path of the picture correct? Not sure if this is how Yola manages the uploaded pictures.

Problem fixed: http://i.imgur.com/k3bPG.png

I am guessing it takes some time as facebook caches the page.

Hi Shaun,

The problem I see with your page is you do not have an image added to your homepage: http://focalcarpentrybrighton.co.uk/. Instead you have a slideshow which Facebook is not picking up. If you incorporate adding a picture using the Picture Widget, you should see Facebook pick up that image in preview without having to jump through any other hoops. Can you please give that a try and let us know how it goes for you?

So should work from that..

Hello Shaun

If I understood you correctly, you should be able to change this on Facebook whenever you share your website URL. Facebook automatically picks up text from your website, but when you click on it before you post it, it allows you to edit. Let me know if this isn't the answer to your question.

Hi, Thanks Stefan but no thats not what I meant.. I'm well aware of the adding text to a facebook post if thats what you mean. I assumed it would pick up the text in my metadata description of the page I am sharing? BUt it is showing the search keywords instead. HEre is a screen shot -

There is text on my home page that I am sharing. That text corresponds to my metadata of that page description.. So either way I thought facebook would pick that up.. Is the a code like the header tracking code for the thumbnail that does this for the text description?

Thanks for your help here :)

Hello Shaun,

Continuing on a bit from the OG metas,
eg:
<meta property="og:title" content="Power Tools - Save Your Energy" />

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <meta name="description" content=" Sunlite Hardware stock a massive range of tools for all your hardware needs in Sydney City & Bondi Junction." />

Hi Shaun,

Sorry, I was too cryptic.

These lines added to the head of your site where you added the code for the image, will now add:
An image title
An image description. The content of the meta data is simply an example, you can replace the example content with your own Title and Description.

FB should subsequently scrape your Yola built site and ad the information to your thumbnail.

Ok.. so do you mean add that code on line 2 of the tracking code? In the header tracking code column?
replacing - "Sunlite Hardware stock a massive range of tools for all your hardware needs in Sydney City & Bondi Junction."   With my description?

Tried this but did not work yet.. May take facebook a bit of time to re cache ..

Hopefully FB will scrape and display these for your FB page.
As you can see there are 2 types of labelling:
  1. Title
  2. Description

I am not sure if you can go with one or the other or if in fact you need to use both at the same time? You should be able to utilise the test facility mentioned in ne of the threads you have written in. This gives an instant proof of the FB metas.

Looking forward to your outcome, Shaun. Let us know.
