Hi Lurata,

Can you post your URL so that we can take a look?

Did you remember to republish your site by clicking on the yellow "Update my Site" button after making the change?

Hi lurata

The built in favicon generator in the site builder presently only supports the Firefox browser. That's why you may not be able to see your favicon in IE or another browser.Here is a cross browser code for favicons. I have used it for some time myself...

I am presently using this code on my site and as you see it is cross browser compatible... http://honeybearplayhomes.synthasite....

1) Upload your favicon to your file manager. (If you already created one with the built in generator then you may not need to make another as it is already in your file manager.)

Edit the following code as follows...
1) You just need to substitute "YOURSITEHERE" in the code below with your site name
2) Chage the "favicon" to your favicon name in the code
3) Highlight the code between the <!-- & --> and copy
4) Open a HTML widget on your page in your editor and paste into it the code you have created
5) Update your site

<!--

<!--

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://YOURSITEHERE.synthasite.com/re...>

-->

Here is an easy favicon generator if you wish to make one from an image.

Sorry I forgot to include the easy code with no editing...

As your favicon should be already stored in your file manager if you used the built in favicon generator in the site manager you need only to add the following code between the <!-- & the --> to a HTML widget and then update to view in your browser.

<!--

<link rel="shortcut icon" href=resources/favicon.ico">

-->

I just looked and yes you do have a favicon already generated in your file manager so the last code I provided will work on all browsers. ;)))

Hi Lurata,

Your favicon displays in Firefox (see below) but as Ed says, it won't work in IE unless you follow his steps (Thanks Ed!).

Hi lurata

I looked on your index page source and don't see that you placed the code on that page. I wonder could your share the page you included the code on with us. If your have inserted the code on the index page could you try to re-update.

If that does not work try the following code. (Lately the system has been having issues with adding the short version of the code.)

<!--

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://lurataneo.synthasite.com/resou...>

-->

Make sure that you delete the <!-- and the -->

Hi lurata,

Internet Explorer doesn't allow favicons to be displayed next to your URL or on the tab of the window. The favicon will be displayed if the site is bookmarked and in your Favourites folder. The best option would be to change to Firefox which does show the favicons in all three areas.

Hi Lurata

I find your situation to be an interesting challenge. I truly feel for you and wonder myself as to why you are unable to get the favicon to show up in IE as this code allows for cross browser favicons and as you have seen on my site in IE that you need not bookmark or Favorite my site to see my little bear.

Lately (past week) there has been a little difficulty in implementing the code with synthasites system as it was only 2 weeks ago that one simply had to include:

<!--

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="resources/favicon.ico">

-->

without the need for the long URL and it would work properly. Now it seems that only the following will work

<!--

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://lurataneo.synthasite.com/resou...>

-->

I had a difficult time with mine and had to store the image file on another one of my sites then change the long URL to direct to this favicon file. This somehow freed up the favicon once again to be viewed. I haven't got a clue as to why there would be a problem but I found that I was able to make it work in this way and feel that in your case it may be something that you should look into.

So if I were you I would create a second site called lurataneo2.synthasite.com and upload your favicon to this site then update to save and make the favicon viewable then use the following code on your original site. I know that it seems like much but if you were to this it may allow yours to be shown in IE like mine as well.

new site name... lurataneo2.synthasite.com

<!--

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://lurataneo2.synthasite.com/reso...>

-->

If that doesn't work I am afraid you have picked my head clean ;) but I will endeavor to get this figured out for you.

Happy site building
Ed

Don't give up yet ;)))

I want you to create a new favicon using this free online generator.

http://tools.dynamicdrive.com/favicon/

Name it favicon2 and upload it to your main site file manager then use the following code.

As my favicon was not generated by the built in feature in synthasite this may be the difference.

<!--

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://lurataneo.synthasite.com/resou...>

-->

LOL and I guess it's both of us because I failed to put the "2" after your site name in the code. I fixed it below...

You didn't name it favicon2 on your new site. http://lurataneo2.synthasite.com/reso...

That's ok just place this code in your HTML widget and give that a try...

hmmm guess you did everything right after all. I just reread my instructions above, above, above and if you followed them you should have your favicon in IE. Sorry but this seems a bit buggy.

One last thing before I have run out of ideas.

Please use this code in an HTML widget on your new site (lurataneo2) . I want to see if maybe there is a piece of code on your original site that may be interacting with the favicon code.

This is actual code i used in my favicon after i have uploaded it in the properties bar. I used "favicon2" because this is the filename i used. Just replace the URL and the "favicon2" if you are using "favicon".Just Put it between the head tag.

Is yours the same with this? This code works great in me.

I see now your favicon. Have you tried the code? Paste it in every page in your site but make sure that the favicon is also uploaded in that page.

i see your favicon already on your home page earlier. Have you remove it? Open your site in firefox because it does not show in IE.

Don't be upset. Paste the code again lurata and save your site and update it. Then view your site in firefox. Believe me, i already viewed your site with your favicon on it. Don't open it in IE because it doesn't really show up. Paste it again and i will make a screen capture to show you that the code works in your site.
