Yola should create a menu option to have the page you're currently on in a different format. For example, if you're at the home page, the home tab should be bolder and bigger, maybe even a different color. Maybe yola can make this customizable to... what font (size & color) can be determined by the website creator.

although, there may be 'reasons' why all the good suggestions turn into thin air. I'm not positve YET about how yola's scripting language is used/operated.

Thanks for the feature request! Menu editing is possibly something we will look at in the future. The other option at this time if you don't like the menu you have; you can always create your own menu.

Kind Regards,
Emmy

yep... I suggested that to William in another thread. I don't use them too much cause it's too much work, but just in case if William would like to try it. Do you know of any good menu customizing sites for William?

I would like to be able to insert self-made flash animations or quick-time movies. This web site is a source and demonstration site for my students and these features would be great ways to show students samples and to add tutorial funcitonality

Hello LM Thomson

If you would like to add flash to your page, here are the steps to do:

Here's how to add a flash file to your page:

1) Upload your .swf file. You can do this by clicking on the File Manager button.
2) Drag and drop a HTML widget onto your site, where you would like to see your flash presentation, and paste the following HTML inside it:

<object width="200" height="400">
<param name="movie"value="resources/myswffile.swf">
<embed src="resources/myswffile.swf"width="200"height="400"/>
</object>

3) Then substitute "myswffile.swf" in the code above - in both places, with the name of the file you uploaded, and you should see the flash movie appear when you close the HTML editor. You'll need to play around with the width and height values in the text above, to suit your movie's needs.
4) Remember to include any folder names in the file path if your file is stored in a folder in the File Manager. For example: "resources/Flash folder/myswffile.swf"

We don't currently have a tool that allows you to upload your video and play it on your Yola site. But I can suggest an alternative: upload your video onto another website like Youtube or Metacafe and then add one of those widgets to your page on Yola and browse for your uploaded video.

To add a video to your page, follow these few simple steps:

1. Open the "video" folder on the right hand side of the screen and drag and drop a Youtube or Metacafe icon onto your page.
2. In the properties sidebar on the right, click on the "browse" link.
3. Browse Youtube or Metacafe for the video you want to embed in your site.
4. Copy the URL for the video from your browser window.
5. Paste the URL over the default URL in the properties sidebar in Yola. Hit "Enter" and then click "Apply".

Your video will then be embedded in your web page.

I hope these suggestions help! :)

Thanks this answered my question - worked well. Unfortunately school district's firewall has YouTube etc. blocked but was able to get the flash stuff uploaded and makes a great demonstration of what their assignments should look like - check it out at "ghsintro2comps.yolasite.com". Thanks

If you have the movies or are able to put them onto your computer or drive (flash drive, etc.) you can upload them on two conditions...

  • 15 MB or less per file with regular account (free yola) - which I doubt they are this small
  • 100 MB or less per file with pro account
