Files in File Manager

why can't i open some files in my file manager? i am trying to clean out old files. Some files i don't even recognize and want to open them to see what they are and can't. If i try to point to 'delete,' the words move....like a "keep-away game."

Brianna's suggestion that the problem might involve Adobe Flash or Java does not seem to be the answer. I reinstalled the latest versions of both and the problem continues.

My site is Oakislandartguild.org

Files that i can't open: artdivreport; librarydonation; oiagnews; heytheredoc; among others.

Also, i deleted AAS watercoler workshop, among others, and the file link is still among the the files and i can't delete it.

My e-mail address is penelope@ec.rr.com. Please help.

Hi Penny,

Could you give us the full names of a couple of files including the suffices, please.

Thanks Penny,

I'll see what I can make of this and get back to you.
It may well be an issue that only the staff can deal with and in that case the solution probably won't be looked at until the 2nd Jan. Here's hoping that something jumps out at me.

It's not really an issue. I tend to place things that are direct follow ons in the comment but if you need to add images or the like I place them in Reply. Then again I often just hit the whatever key :)

Hi Penny,

I was able to download the files, which is probably what you can do. There was a problem with "AAS Watercolor Workshop.doc" not being found.

I am not able to upload doc, docx or xls files into my test site so I can't test the deletion aspect of those file types.

I was able to upload a doc file and subsequently remove it without the issue you mentioned. I am using Firefox 9.0.

I'm not seeing moving headings causing issues with image files so I think that this may be related to non-image files. Can you just check to see if the headings move on image files when you go to delete them?

You have probably also answered the annoying question of what browser are you using and the version. There were some issues with some of the FF releases a while back so it may be associated with these issues (?)

I'm really sorry i don't have the quick answer for you but I'm happy just to go through the various processes that I can, simply for your information.

thank you gop.

i'm using Internet Explorer......the version ?? Doesn't tell me under properties but i haven't changed it in 2 years.

No problems with image files for me either.

If the "AAS Watercolor...." file is not found (i deleted it sometime last week), why can't i delete it. Guess that's all part of the problem.

I guess i'll have to wait until Jan 2, tho we are going to downgrade to the free version of Yola and maybe the staff won't be so helpful then.

thanx again for your effort,
Penny

OK Penny thanks for your response.

I made an amendment to the observation at the same moment you posted your latest. I was able to upload and delete a doc file so I would suggest to download FireFox and see if this alters the appearance of your File Manager. IE from 2 years ago is getting very old and could very well be the problem you are experiencing (?) you will probably notice more and more anomalies very quickly in the coming periods.

The Version number of your IE will be apparent in the toolbar under >Help>About Internet Explorer (or something similar)
