I’m experiencing a bit of a problem with the Yola Site Builder and I was hoping someone could look into for me. I’ve been experiencing the problem for the past few weeks.
When using the Text (old) Widget, and trying to change the text colour using the ‘Font Color’ tool, if I try to select any of the colours from the top row (i.e. any of the nine shades from white to black) then instead of changing the text colour the Site Builder simply refreshes the page (losing any unsaved work) instead. As such, the only way to select one of these colours is to copy and paste text with this colour from a previously created page.
However, this problem doesn’t seem to happen when I’m using my work laptop!
Here’s some key details that might help when looking into the matter:
Home PC (which I experience the problem with):
Browser: Firefox (Version 39.0)
Work Laptop (which I do not experience the problem with):
Browser: Internet Explorer 11 (Version: 11.0.9600.17914)
I can also confirm that I have already cleared my cache / deleted all cookies on my home PC.
Many thanks for any help you can give me with this.
There is an issue with the color not holding in the old Text Widget and the page refreshing after selecting the color. It seems specific to Firefox.
Our engineers are looking into this and determining the best course of action.
In the meantime, using an alternate browser such as Chrome or IE will work. Alternatively, you can also use the new Text Widget as well.
Hopefully, you can use these suggestions until a fix is in place.
Hi Sanja - many thanks for the response. I'll continue to copy and paste already formatted text from other pages on my site until the issue is resolved (this seems to work but is a bit of a pain).
Re the 'New' Text Widget. This is no good for editing my website with because the vast majority of my site was created a number of years before the New Text Widget was put in place. Using the New Text Widget / Style Designer causes massive problems across the entirety of my website - ruining the look of all the text and destroying the overall consistency to the website. If you remember back when the Style
Destroyer Designer was first put in place, I was one of those that encountered big problems which thankfully resulted in the (old) Text Widget being reinstalled.
Fingers crossed the (old) Text Widget is fixed sometime soon.
Thanks again for your response.
Please note the problem has been going on for well over 2 months now.
I look forward to hearing back from you.
Hi Jane - what I've been doing is copying-and-pasting text with the colour I want from other (pre-existing) pages on my site, then typing over the text on my new page. As you can imagine - a bit of a pain, but I assumed Yola would get it sorted asap. Unfortunately the problem (when using Firefox) still remains.
However, if you use Internet Explorer, the top colour row actually works fine. But then, if you copy and paste text from different pages (which I also need to do on my website whenever I create a new page/review for unrelated reasons) then in Internet Explorer it changes the font and size which is even more of a pain.
So in a nutshell - Yola comes across as a bit of a amateurish mess at the moment. And has been for a few months. Hopefully someone will get on to fixing this soon as the current 'work arounds' detailed above are a bit of a pain, and to be honest, we really shouldn't need to resort to using them over such a longer period of time in order to simply change the colour of basic text!
Yola - please respond...
I wanted to hop in to clarify, that yes, we are aware of this problem and it is logged for our engineers. However, as the problem relates to our old text widget, it is not a high priority for them to address it, nor will it be going forward. We have committed to leaving the old text widget active and available for our valued customers who feel too invested in it to make the switch to the new text widget. Still it's important to note that the reason we replaced the text widget over a year ago is because we were fully aware that it was rapidly becoming outdated technology that was going to continue to be less reliable. No amount of engineering resources will change that and we feel it's important to focus on the technology we are moving forward with as opposed to the technology we have already replaced. The ideal solution is to move all of your text to the new text widget if using an alternate browser or the other work around you have described is not suitable to you. As we have said before, we strongly believe this is the way forward even if the transition is challenging in the interim.
I understand your position, but moving over to the new text widget isn't really an option for me as I literally have hundreds of pages that would need some serious amount of reformatting if I was to move over to the new text widget (I believe you looked into this a while back for me and agreed it was a problem). We're not just talking hours of work - I'm pretty sure we're talking weeks.
I originally chose Yola as my site builder because I felt it would offer the site building facilities that allowed simple updates and easy formatting. This is essential for a site like mine.
Had I known that a few years down the line I would need to give my entire site a complete overhaul in order to fit in with the plans of your engineers I probably would have gone elsewhere.
The colour tool in the old text widget was working fine up until around 3 months ago. Can one of your engineers not spend an hour or two (over the next few days) looking at what they did that suddenly made it not function properly? I've invested so much time into building my site using Yola. I'm now getting increasingly concerned that Yola isn't the right site builder for me (or anyone who plans to keep a website with Yola for longer than a couple of years). Which is a real shame.
Alternatively, could one of your engineers possibly look at assisting me with moving my entire site over to the new text widget? Maybe there's a way that I'm not aware of that wouldn't amount to weeks worth of work, with my website unable to be updated the entire time?
I appreciate where your coming from, and that you want to keep advancing your site builder functionality, but I'm not sure exactly what the right move for me is now.
If it's unlikely that Yola is able to accomodate a site like mine any longer then I would be very grateful if a Yola engineer could provide me with some guidance on how I can move my site over to a different provider. Obviously a full refund on my subscription will also need to be provided if this turns out to be the case.
I really am very saddened that it may come to this, as I have invested so much time and effort into building my site through Yola. However, hopefully we can meet halfway somehow.
I look forward to one of us hopefully finding a resolution for this.
I don't like the new text widget. It doesn't have all the features of the old text widget. Although I have mixed old and new on the same page and there is no difference in what others see, when published.
