I am having trouble pointing my domain from Yola to another host. I have changed the DNS settings on Yola, yet cannot seem to get the new host to load my website. Apparently although numerous times requested, the new host says that Yola did not release the domain yet. Please help? How can I get this to be done?

Hi kgolokb,

there are two processes that are being referred to here:

Transfer of Domain. This is what your other host is referring to

The second term is pointing your domain. This is a different and unrelated process which holds your domain on Yola and points the domain to another server. There is no transfer with this process

If you can let us know which process you wish to do then this will become clearer.

Hi there Gop and Stefan,

Thanks for you responses

I really just want a domain pointing.... as I understood and personally tried to do, per the manual on domain pointing, I changed the dns settings on yola - with the dns settings (A records) they gave me.

Yet nothing happened.

let me give a bit of background.
i purchased the domain from yola, but want to host with the other host as they have a database facility, where they can manage and host my database..

I do not want to transfer, just do a domain pointing, so my website can be loaded and be activated. thats really so simple.. yet (I wish I knew how to do this)..

Hi kgolokb,

DNS management does your head in ;-)

What I can do from here is check your A records and see where they are pointing. I would need to know your domain name. I use a public facility for this mxtoolbox.com. or something similar as mxtoolbox is often off the air. It's not difficult but just takes a little bit to get your head around as well. I'm happy to check for or with you.

Another aspect of this is that it can take upto 48 hours for the changes to go through so if at first you don't succeed....Wait! My experience has been much faster than this but it's a well publicised figure.

:-), .... :-/

Trust me, I thought I had it all in the bag on the 27th after the below babble between my web developer and the new host...

Then I went to being chaffed with myself to complete frustration.

Okay, here goes- the domain name is: www.fruityummies.com

Type Domain Name IP Address TTL
A fruityummies.com 41.76.208.200 6 hrs

A www.fruityummies.com 41.76.208.200 6 hrs

The A records are both pointing to 41.76.208.200

Hello there Gop

Thank you for your reply. I did as you recommended. I suppose one should now wait a maximum to 48hrs to see if it works?

Will keep you posted.

Hi kgolokb

I'm sorry that this thing has become such a headache for you. Please let us know if it doesn't work out, so that the Yola Support team can also investigate if necessary. Thanks.
