GBBO

I just spent ages building a site with Yola after being directed there by 'Getting British Business Online'.
It said it was completely free for a year, free.co.uk address for a year, free support etc.
So I'm building this site for my local art group and don't expect to pay anything, and then after I have spent all that time sorting it out, I try to publish the site. It then takes me to a page that wants to charge me £4.99 for Silver Yola, doesn't give me any information about whether my site has been published or a whole waste of time. I refuse to pay anything as the reason I started all this is because it was free!!!
What's going on?? Is this just another con?

Hi artworksbysue,

The offer to upgrade to Silver Yola for £4.99 is completely optional and in no way required in order to take advantage of your free year with Yola and the GBBO program.

Have you already registered your free domain? If so, can you please reply with it so I can take a look and check if you have published your site? Alternately you can tell me your site name or email support@yola.com with your login email so we can investigate further.

I am so sorry for my rant I was tired last night and missed a checkbox which was automatically ticked by default. Obviously the one saying upgrade to Yola Silver, I have now unchecked it and all is fine. But while I have you here, could you please confirm that after the one free year, it is only £17.95? And after that year does the cost remain the same?
My apologies again for the tone of my message.

Hi artworksbysue

No problem, we all have our off days ;) I'm just happy that you found the box to uncheck!

Yes, after the first year, it is £ 17.95 to renew (which includes a 25% discount). After that, .co.uk domains are renewed for 2 years at a time for £ 25.10 (for both years).

Ok, now I just said all was fine, and I thought it was, as now my payment box stated it was free. Unfortunately it wouldn't accept my transaction? I went back to the beginning and tried again but still no luck...
The site is therefore still not published, so looks like I could do with your help after all...

Site name... mavericksartandcrafts.co.uk

I look forward to hearing back from you.

Hello again artworksbysue

Your domain has not yet been purchased, by the looks of it. When you are on the payments screen are you seeing errors in any of the fields, such as postal code or CSC number?

If you are, then try adding that information again. Let us know if it is still not working.

Yes I know that my site has not been purchased yet, as I said it will not accept 'payment' ('redeem'). Yes I can fill in everything with no errors, everything is correct and I have tried it multiple times. When I click the final button 'redeem' it says it is processing payment and then says there is a problem with my order and it cannot be processed.

We aren't able to find an account for you searching by your website name. Have you registered an account yet? If so, can you please email support@yola.com with your login email so we can take a closer look?

I have sent several emails to customer support, but it's taking days to get the answers. I don't know if every time I reply it gets lost in a big queue or something but it always takes hours or days to get a reply (not even answers that I ask for ), and I have not had my email available to me all the time so that makes it even more difficult to get this sorted. And then to add insult to injury the last one I sent asking implicitly that they answer the actual questions I was asking because I needed to know by Monday, wasn't answered because the member of staff I was dealing with was offline!!! Surely someone else could have answered it.
I'm so frustrated because I need to know these answers before we go printing up an y cards etc with the website on, and I am meeting with the art group today.

So I am asking the questions here!

I wanted to use the GBBO Bronze offer, but I cannot because it won't accept my card. Therefore I need to upgrade to Silver, but before I do I would like to know...

1. Once I cancelled at the end of the year (as the art group could not afford the £70+ renewal fee) would the name then be a free and available domain once more, or would you not release it freely?

2. If not how much would it cost to take the domain name with us?

3. If this question applies... would it be one payment or would that be yearly rental too?

Thank you I really hope I can get these answers this time.

Hi Sue,

I am sorry to hear that you are struggling with receiving support via email and would like to look into what is going on with that. Firstly, however, I would like to answer the questions you have posed:

1) Once a domain has expired, it will go into a period called a 'Redemption Phase'. The domain will then sit at the registrar for up to three months until it is released. This is a common domain practice and I would certainly suggest a few alternatives so you are not sitting domain-less waiting for the release!

2) I would suggest, if you do not wish to stay with Yola after the year, to transfer your domain to an external registrar before it expires. Transferring away from Yola is free on our end, however, the registrar you are transferring to may charge a fee. This process needs to begin at least 12 days prior to your domain expiring. You can read more about it here: Transfer your domain to a new registrar. When this time comes, we will be happy to help you with releasing your domain.

3) If you choose to keep your domain with Yola, as a Google GBBO member you receive a 25% discount off the cost when you renew your domain package after your first year. This means you only pay £17.95. This cost is for one year of registration, however, you can choose to renew your domain for multiple years if you would like to.

I hope you find this information helpful, Sue. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.
