Google Alerts and SEO

I was doing some reading this morning concerning SEO and came across something I am trying out using Google Alerts.(This can be found on your webmaster page)

Google Alerts lets you choose alerts from news, blogs or whatever is the latest on the net by any subject you want....You may have alerts sent to you via e mail or by feed to Google Reader as I have done.....The SEO part is when you create your alerts enter your key word/phrases and up to date very very relevant information is sent to you....Visit the sites where the information came from and many will have a place to comment and leave your url.....Now you have very relevant fresh information from another site pointing back to yours....Or you can spend hours doing searches on your own....I say let the info come to me by having Google do the work.

Remember to be a good webmaster by doing two things.

1.Do not spam others in this process.
2.If you leave a comment make it relevant and have merit....On my own blog when I get a comment like...Best post ever and their url, it gets marked as spam and never makes it to my published page

As usual from you, John, another Great Idea. What a great way to get your URL out there. I've used Google Alerts for years--before the days of forums and blogs.

It gives a good picture of your competitors--who they are, what they're doing and how they're marketing. You'll also find occasional copyright violations when others use your copy on their sites.

Thanks for posting

You are welcome....I came across an article written by an SEO expert and this is one of the things many in the field already do...After I thought about I was thinking well DUH!! Sure beats hours looking for recent relevant articles to make a comment on and leave your URL....I figure I will do a few each day and it will add up.
