thanks Ruth... I didn't read through the whole article, but... does zero in terms of page rank mean "worst" and ten mean "best" therefore 0/10 is worst of a grade than 2 out of 10 kind of like my website grade of 83%... the higher it is, the better. What's the difference between a website grade and a page rank? Besides the obvious numbers one having a high of ten and one a high of 100?

Hi,

I'm not an SEO expert, nor can I comment on the way that Google determines it's page rankings. Here is a forum that has some discussion about page rank zero that you may find useful: http://www.donationcoder.com/Forums/b...

From the information that I have found, it seems that new sites begin with a rank of zero.

Perhaps the Yola forum is not the best place to find this information. Here is a link to the Google groups forum: http://groups.google.com/group/Google...

I hope you can find the answers that you are looking for.

It isn't worst or best and it isn't page rank.....Think of it more as your position on the web and how important Google views your site.Page Rank is in reference to Larry Page and the algorithm he and his team came up with to rate the importance of a site.

Website Grade isn't related to PR.

WG is an estimate of your site having some influence in the web world of marketing. It uses various parameters to determine the WG. It's possible to have a PR of 5 and WG of 30 and I've seen this.

There are also many assumptions made by WG that wouldn't relate to Google at all or PR. Like Alexa rank for sub-domains and Blog ranks for sub-domains. WG can't determine the values so it takes the domain overall and by manipulation comes up with a score on those two parameters. Google and PR wouldn't touch that as it's not an indicator of true quality of a site.

WG as far as ranking goes is an indicator that you are on the right track it isn't trying to tell you if you are high ranking. It tries to estimate the validity of the processing by the web-author. The true rank is detemined by quality. Quality is determined by popularity by non associated parties.

I think only Larry and Sergey understand this one
but it's worth trying to imprint this visual.

I have read that one before also....Amazing that they came on the scene late and just have dominated ever since.

I keep a mental picture of those coloured spheres on the right always.
I get lost on the first line of their algorithm though ;-)
Somewhere in there I see a resemblance to working out "resistance in parallel" from when I studied electrical engineering.
Makes sense to me that, somehow.
