1) The search engine spiders crawl the web every few days to index all the new content that is published on the web. So it takes a little bit of time from the moment when your site is published until the search engines index it.

I've waited a week since last update.

2) It depends what search term you are using when you google your site. (I'm using the exact web site address)

3) Your site will do better if you have a) outbound links (links from your site to other sites) I have links.

4) Last time I asked about this (over a week ago) you directed me to the same site http://getsatisfaction.com/SynthaSite... Since I've followed that advice, what else can you tell me?

I think you missed something in that post. Inbound links are a lot more important than outbound links. Perhaps you have these as well (other sites that link to you), but if not it is worth investing some time in them, as they certainly increase your chances of getting indexed quickly.

I'm sorry that you are frustrated Dawn. All we can tell you is it takes time to increase your site's visibility and page ranking. It sounds like you are on the right track. It can take up to three months (though usually less) for google's crawlers to index your site. This is something that is out of our control.

Perhaps some of our users would like to chime in with some other tips on search engine optimisation.

If some one had told me last week that it might take up to three months I wouldn't be bothering anyone about it now. I was told a few days to a week. I'd rather hear the truth than what someone thinks I want to hear. Saves everyone trouble. The fact that it could take up to three months should be made clear. At least now I know what to do.

"So it takes a little bit of time" so everyone knows "a little bit of time" may = three months.

Dawn, most sites get indexed far faster than that, particularly if you continue to update your site and add link to and from your site.

Have you added Google Analytics - I love that tool, it helped me get my site indexed rather quickly and it lets me see where my visitors have come from and how long they are spending on each page of my site, giving me great feedback on what is interesting to people, and what is boring, so that I can make my site better.

I feel like "google schmoogle" did. Yes, did Analytic and all the rest - still a non- entity. Dawn

You need to keep updating your site regularly, make sure that people link to you on a regular basis and have patience. I know it's hard, but these two things really play a huge role in getting search engines to look at your sites.

This link here http://getsatisfaction.com/SynthaSite...

Will give you lots of feedback about your site, and ways that you can optimise it for search engines.

Hey I'm new and just made a website today! But I was wondering if we could get a bunch of new people on here to create a seperate link tab on their website and share links to other people? You link me and I link you :). It would help all of us out getting more traffic and having more links to make us more visible on the internet! If anyone is interested please stop by my new site and leave a message...i just started it today and have A LOT of work to do still! If you have any ideas or advice please leave me a message on my site or here as well! http://universalgaming.synthasite.com/
Go to the Interesting Links tab to leave a message or request to link with me :)

Hello James,

You did all that in a day?
That's an amazing production. Well done.

I think you're saying that reciprocating links will help your rankings in search engines? This doesn't seem to be true with Google. They see reciprocated links as dodgy unless they're from the same sort of interest. So links between apples and oil have very little weight but links between apples and pears would have a lot more weight. Their formula is a mystery.

The link that Ruth mentioned above is a good review of what's needed.

I'm still astounded by your productivity. Good luck.

Thanks thats a great tool to show me what I need to do to make my site more visible! It took me a little reading to figure out what all they were talking about but I think I'm good to go now!
Thanks again!
