Hi there i am conducting my own SEO investigation of my site and my report has thrown up something which i know nothing about.

Heading & Phrase Elements

The use of Headings & Phrase Elements is important, since they are given more weight by search engines than regular body copy.

Hello Justin

The tags you posted refer to the formatting of texts on your website. The h in h tags stands for "heading". You should add headings to each page of your website, or edit existing text as headings where appropriate. You can do this using the Text Widget. When you highlight text added to a Text Widget, you will be able to make it a heading by choosing the format from the Text Editing Toolbar which pops up at the top.

The other tags refer to further options of formatting text sections that you want to emphasize and that search engines are looking for:
  • strong and b refer to bolded text

  • em and i refer to italic text

  • abbr stands for abbreviations

  • and dfn for definition (will produce italic text)

You can achieve the first two options by using the Text Editing Toolbar, and the others by adding them to the HTML source code of a Text or HTML Widget. For e.g. you can add a sentence like "This is my company ABC" to a Text Widget, and then you open the HTML editor of your Text Widget (> Text Editing Toolbar > HTML icon on the very right) and edit the text like this:
This is my company <abbr>ABC</abbr>.
Search engines will then pick up the abbreviation "ABC" as emphasized text and pay special attention to it.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have more questions.

Thanks for that !

Quick question should i abbreviate my keywords in the image alt tag for example

<img src="resources/increase-website-traffic-fast-300x226.jpg" width="300" height="226" alt="Internet traffic, website traffic, buy cheap website traffic ">

and replace with :

<img src="resources/increase-website-traffic-fast-300x226.jpg" width="300" height="226" alt="<abbr>Internet traffic</abbr>, <abbr>website traffic, <abbr>buy cheap website traffic</abbr> ">

Hello Justin

No, you wouldn't use text formatting tags within an alt tag. You will only use them for text displayed on pages of your website.
