Hi everyone, I am having such a problem with my shipping rates, can anyone help me please? I thought I had set it up so that the cost of postage is according to weight, but everytime I try it, it always increases to cost of postage, so if someone orders 2 more, the postage doubles, and if they order 3, then it triples. I am at breaking point now, as I need to get the shop up and running as I am losing money!!!! Oh yes, also when I go into the carrier section, it always states that I am in Australia, but I live in the UK. I am wondering if I should find a UK webhosting company to take over, any suggestions please as I do not really want the hassle of moving the website. Thank you folks, Dawn

Hi Dawn,

This can be worked out quite easily so take heart. Your location is not an issue this will be related to the Formats & Units mentioned below.

The first thing to do is to change your Currency and weight. This will help with the overall comfort:

Go to your Online Store → Advanced Options → System Settings → General → Formats & Units.

There you can change your Currency to Pound Sterling and your currency symbol to (pound). On the right hand side you can change your Weight unit to g or Kg depending on your average product weight but usually g. Beneath that if you select g( grams) and enable "Hide your trailing zeroes"

Do this and get back to me here and we'll see what is happening with your shipping.

Thank you so much for your help so far. I have done as you mentioned above. Before we go any further, do I need to set up the new Shipping Features or can I leave them as they are?

Thank you again, Dawn

Sorry for the delay.

Leave them for a start so we have a baseline for you to work from.

Can you take a screen shot of your Zones and Shipping pages? This will allow me to see what the rules are saying then we can discuss any changes need to be made.

Thank you Dawn,

If you're shipping from the UK then Australia Post won't work for you.

If you are using Royal Mail then this has to be set up a bit differently.

Can you confirm this for me to start?

What parts of the world do you intend to ship to and from where? Looks like you're shipping from the above Origin Address?

Hiya,
I am shipping from the UK and, for now, only selling to the UK. It won't let me change the shipping information from Australia to the UK. Yes, I am shipping from the Origin address.

What we have to do is to create a Shipping rule that covers your need. Royal Mail do not have an automatic API or plug-in program to determine national shipping for standard mailing.

Select your Shipping region as the first question. It would be your UK and will be offered to you as an option for selection.

Under, create a new Shipping Method and for convenience call it Royal Mail. A modal window will appear and here is where you will be shown three options under 2. Select how you calculate shipping each preceded by a so-called radio button. Click on Custom Table and do fairly much what you ahve done in your previous set-up. What you haven't done is allow for a weight greater than 750 gram. This may be OK if this will never happen but keep in mind also that if a customer selects multiple items of 750 grams or the sum of the weight is more than 750 gram then there will be anomalies. In such cases you need to extend the table for all possibilities, particularly multiple selections.

You also need to add the item weight for each product to it's product entry. This can be important.

So now in functional summary, you have created an allowable shipping zone, exclusively the UK, which will include Nthn Ireland and the various channel Islands even if the postage is more expensive. (If this is important then you need to separate these into different zones and exclude them from your first shipping zone.

If someone now places an order from a region out of the UK they will be notified that you do not ship to such a destination. The sum of the weights will be compared to your shipping table and matched to this. If the sum is greater than your max allowable limit it may break it into multiples of weight. If your products don't have an associated weight there will now not be any shipping charge calculated and in effect you may be offering free shipping by default.

Hello,

I'm still trying to do what you told me do above and none of it's happening. I have tried on all the different way of settingthe shipping rates and a window has never come up with 'how you calculate shipping' nor a custom table. Should I have changed over to the new shipping features??

You can certainly switch to the new but not sure that this is the issue.
Can you tell me the navigation you use to get to the Shipping Method and maybe a screen shot of your page where you get to..

I've set it all up, but it's still increasing the cost of postage - doubling when I put two in the shopping bag and increasing it by three when I put three in the basket. Just about ready to give up now :(

Can you show me your recreated shipping table?
How much do each of the products weigh?
